TrackBack Spam
Each day now, I go to my blog control panel and find 2,000 instances of TrackBack spam.
What is it?
TrackBack is a mechanism used in a blog to show, around an entry, a list of other blogs that refer to it.
Some individuals or companies have abused the TrackBack feature to insert spam links on some blogs. This is similar to comment spam but avoids some of the safeguards designed to stop the latter practice. As a result, TrackBack spam filters similar to those implemented against comment spam now exist in many weblog publishing systems.
Such is my case for my Word Press Blog.
What it means for me though is that, each day I have to hit delete 2000 times!
Likely there are ways aorund it, I could:
1. Turn off comments
2. Find a filter for it, which likely would require upgrading my blog, which in the end might mean for me more headaches than the 2000 deletes…
How are YOU dealing with trackback spam?

I thought Word Press had a “Batch Delete” for all the nonsense? I just go to the moderation
panel and select delete all and then press the moderate button. NO? You’ve been hitting
delete 2,000 times a day? Carpel Tunnel syndrome awaits you dear!
I deal with it by not having to deal with it… I don’t have to worry about trackbacks or anything like that, since my site doesn’t use any pre-existing blogging software. My site and all included code is entirely hand-written. I suppose that’s not really an option for you though, is it? Hmm…
I remembered reading something on Jeff’s site about trackback spam… here: Fed Up With Trackback Spam
