Botellon

Tens of thousands of young people gathered in cities around Spain on Friday night in an attempt to hold the biggest street drinking session or "botellon" ("big bottle").

Like one would suspect, this caused clashes between the young people and the police. 70 were arrested in Barcelona, which in the past has been like a second home to me. Barcelona didn’t host the only section of violence, there was plenty to go around in the other cities as well.

Tens of thousands is a lot of young people, and in this modern age one would think that the youth of any nation could find something better to do than to unite in a national drinking binge.

I know this seems isolated to one country, but, to me it does seem to require an evaluation on a worldwide scale as to what values our young people are being raised with. What do you think? Isn’t there something better and more productive for young healthy people to spend their time doing?

No, not a good idea, not very mature. But is it really any different than
Mardi Gras or Spring Break in Datona?
