One billion Internet Users

More than one billion people in the world have access to the Internet, with a quarter of them with broadband, or high-speed connections, according to a survey. This milestone was reached in late 2005.

The United States is still number one in terms of numbers of Internet users with 175 million, and broadband households, 43.7 million. Europe had 233 million people online and 55.2 million broadband households. China had 111 million users and 34.1 million households with fast connections. The region that was growing fast was Latin America.

Amazing how far we have come. I still remember vividly getting my first computer and refusing to use the net because it was “too slow”. That was back in AOL days when we paid by the minute!

I am still amazed how massive the internet has become. Even looking at my son’s school, now huge computer screens instead of blackboards… not all good hey ;0) What you said about the costs of having the net makes a huge difference now it’s so much cheaper therefore more accessible to the masses.

Ahhh, yes… I remember my pentium 133mhz Gateway system with a 1GB hard drive and 16 MB of RAM. When I upgraded to a 33.6kps modem,I thought I was “All That” and a bag of Doritos too!
