I remember reading stories to my son with Sesame Street characters and the biggest problem on the block was usually Bert aggravated with Ernie for making such a mess, or Cookie Monster had been into the cookies again, disguised as the “Great Cookie Thief”.

No more.

Now, for T-shirts, Sesame Street characters look something out of a gang nightmare. These T-shirts have Oscar the Grouch emerging from his garbage can, wielding a 9 mm handgun. On others, Bert and Ernie are standing in a gang posture, armed with automatic weapons. Makes me sad to think of these long time beloved characters in our home made into something so negative.

One school has banned the T-shirts.

Somebody better call Super Grover, this just isn’t right for our children.
