Goodnight, Germany
“When the Koran is put above the German constitution, I can only say, ‘Good night, Germany,’ ” Ronald Pofalla, general secretary of the main conservative party in Germany. Why would he say such a thing? Well it seems a German Muslim woman was denied a divorce she was asking for based on her husband beat her. The judge in the case cited the Koran as the reason she couldn’t have a divorce. According to the judge, the Koran approves such kind of physical abuse from husband to wife. Fortunately, the ruling was met with quick condemnation, and the judge was dismissed. Wikipedia Article on Husbands and Wives in Islam New York Times Article … Read entire article »

“Are you ready to change the way that you live?”
Supposedly, this is a quote from Al Gore’s movie, “An Inconvenient Truth” Now, I am not saying that we shouldn’t change, but what hit me odd was the report on the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works article, that when Al Gore was ask the same question and presented with an Oath to do so, he refused. Here is the Oath As a believer: · that human-caused global warming is a moral, ethical, and spiritual issue affecting our survival; · that home energy use is a key component of overall energy use; · that reducing my fossil fuel-based home energy usage will lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions; and · that leaders on moral issues should lead by example; I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household by March 21, … Read entire article »

Web censorship spreading globally
Excerpts from the Financial Times… “Internet censorship is spreading rapidly, being practised by about two dozen countries and applied to a far wider range of online information and applications, according to research by a transatlantic group of academics. A recent six-month investigation into whether 40 countries use censorship shows the practice is spreading, with new countries learning from experienced practitioners such as China and benefiting from technological improvements. Ronald Deibert, associate professor of political science at the University of Toronto, said 10 countries had become “pervasive blockers”, regularly preventing their citizens seeing a range of online material. These included China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Burma and Uzbekistan. New censorship techniques include the periodic barring of complete applications, such as China’s block on Wikipedia or Pakistan’s ban on Google’s blogging service, and the use of more … Read entire article »

Currently Watching
This certainly didn’t match totally what I was taught in Sunday School (about certain locations of Mount Siani and the Red Sea), but was very eye-opening, informing, and pleasing to see the beauty of the area, even under water. Very much worth the hour, and there are two more hours of “extras” I look forward to! … Read entire article »

The Rapture
Rapture. I don’t think this word is anywhere in the Bible, but it has come to have meaning to Christians who believe in a time when Jesus will return to collect His church in the air. This was a constant topic in our youth groups when I was growing up. Nowadays, it doesn’t seem to be such a constant topic. I was rather intigued to find this Australian site, PottersHouse.com with these bold and dramatic mini movies. … Read entire article »

The Gift of Poetry
Many has been the time that I have blogged on the gift of some music sent to me. Today is quite different. Not music this time, but Poetry has been the gift. The Prince of Belvedere and Other Poems written by Ephraim Figueroa thoughtfully arrived to my home and was gratefully placed in my collection of books, and in today’s homeschooling, was read out loud and enjoyed by my children. The book claims that it is for grown-ups … Read entire article »
