Washington Waste

This is not a new story, in fact it is rather nauseatingly old; government waste of our hard earned dollars. In light of how several of our presidential candidates would like government run health care, I read the following two headlines easily imagining how badly they could waste tax dollars in the name of medicine for all. D.C. officials got improper bonuses two dozen senior D.C. officials received more than $500,000 in cash bonuses, contrary to the rules, near the end of the administration of Mayor Anthony A. Williams, according to a report Friday by the D.C. auditor. Some in Fairfax Public Housing Make Six Figures Hundreds of families living in housing subsidized by Fairfax County taxpayers exceed income caps designed to ensure that only the neediest receive assistance, a review of … Read entire article »

How He Even Dared Ask

How He Even Dared Ask

When Brit of Brit and Grit commented on his own blog regarding the Iranian leader wishing to visit Ground Zero, he mentioned, "I don’t know how he even dared ask." My first thought to that was, "Indeed!" However a few scans of recent headlines made it clear to me how he even dared ask. We have been pandering to tyrants for awhile now, and certainly, the system sure allows for all walks of life to step … Read entire article »

The New Citizen Media

My copy of WebProNews came in my inbox today, and the title of one article caught my attention: CBS Just Can’t Get Along with Bloggers? The first line in the article claims that it was bloggers who forced Dan Rather into early retirement. It then drones on with something about Katie Couric and Move-On.org, neither of which interests me, but out came this new term – “The New Citizen Media.” Yet another was mentioned in the email from WebProNews – “Citizen Journalist.” My, I just like these two new terms instead of blogger. I feel so much more important now! There was one note in the email by the editor, saying that us bloggers Citizen Journalists are not held to the same standards as the mainstream press, and where that might be true, I feel … Read entire article »

Remember

Remember

“Great necessities call out great virtues.” ~Abigail Adams Huge tragedies like our nation’s 9-11 does show us all the great virtues that make up our people, but they also reveal what is wrong, and that should drive us to our knees. I remember how united we felt, even in our differences. I wish it didn’t take that kind of tragedy to bring us closer together, to bring us close to God. What I see 6 years later is a … Read entire article »

First Day of School

First Day of School

Today, September 4th, Laura and I started our school year. Yesterday though, I went into her room to discuss an event coming up, and noticed her calendar was still on August. I went to turn to the month of September to see the date of the event, and she exclaimed, “Don’t turn the calendar!” I looked at her questioningly, “Why?” She smiled and admitted, “I’m in denial.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Denial or not, we had a great start to our school today. Algebra, Spanish … Read entire article »

Tumalo Farms Cheese wins First Prize

Tumalo Farms Cheese wins First Prize

My crazy Brazilian “brother”, Flavio, tells a local news all about his cheese and goat farm. In a very charming way, he compared herding goats to the milking parlor to his days in the boardroom with engineers, that was funny. I am proud of Flavio, he works hard along with his wife Margie, and everything he does is so successful! News Video HERE   … Read entire article »
