Olympics in China
I am starting to understand the upcoming Olympics in China less and less.
Forgetting the headlines on the toxic goods they produce and send out to the rest of the world, within their own country, they are starting a cleansing, imprisoning all of their "troublemakers " and their families, and this includes a 2 month old under house arrest.
Next, British Olympic chiefs are to force athletes to sign a contract promising not to speak out about China’s appalling human rights record – or face being banned from travelling to Beijing.
And next, our atheletes are taking their own food to China .
"When a caterer working for the United States Olympic Committee went to a supermarket in China last year, he encountered a piece of chicken — half of a breast — that measured 14 inches. “Enough to feed a family of eight,” said Frank Puleo, a caterer from Staten Island who has traveled to China to handle food-related issues.
“We had it tested and it was so full of steroids that we never could have given it to athletes. They all would have tested positive.”
I like the Olympics, but, this year, for many reasons, I can’t seem to get excited about it.

Thanks for those updates. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? I’m with you – the Olympics are great to watch but the whole China thing puts a damper on it.
This just shows how difficult it is to separate politics from the Olympics. There were more political considerations behind awarding them the Games than anything else. Given the ongoing human rights issues I can’t help but wonder why the rest of the world is falling all over itself to develop economic relations with them. I think the hope is that the growth of capitalistic ventures in the country will force change. I have my doubts.
