Confusing Contradictions

For some, news headlines must be very confusing. For those who didn’t know their own minds, they could spend a lot of time going around in circles…

TAKE BIRTH CONTROL….or…NOT?

Yesterday, a large headline appeared next to Nanny Pelosi’s image, where she insisted that part of the 800+ Billion stimulous package needed to be thrown at Family Planning, birth control, THAT, she was sure would help the economy. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi boldly defended a move to add birth control funding to the new economic “stimulus” package, claiming “contraception will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”  Naturally that was met with a sensible, “How you can spend hundreds of millions of dollars on contraceptives how does that stimulate the economy?” from House Republican Leader John Boehner.

However, very close to this population control headline was one Japanese Workers Urged to Go Home and Multiply , because THAT would help the economy.

To insult Pelosi furthur, the next headline was that BECAUSE of the bad economy, egg and sperm sales are up . People are selling what they can to HELP their financial situation!

HOW ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING?

It never fails. Every time someone wants to hold a rally, make a talk, or form a protest about Global Warming, they get froze out! Such as this recent one, Gore Hearings on Global Warming to be put on ice. You see, Washington DC is set for snow, followed by an ice storm right when AlGore is to hold Global warming hearings.

HOW ABOUT OBAMA’S SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY NOMINEE?

Geithner simply cannot explain why he failed to his self-employment taxes four separate years despite routine notification by the IMF and the feds. Basically, we are in a financial system meltdown, and Obama decides to put someone who failed to pay his taxes in charge of the cleanup – and in charge of oversight of the IRS!

Interestingly enough, Timothy Geithner paid most of the past-due taxes days before Obama announced his nomination in November.

There’s more. Geithner somehow overlooked the fact that his immigrant housekeeper’s work authorization papers had expired!

Based on Geithner’s list of ‘oversights’ and “mistakes” AND  his orchestration of much of this year’s financial bailouts in his current post, Geithner would be “more of the same” of the worst aspects of the Bush administration — more bailouts, more lack of transparency in the bailouts, and more corporate welfare. As head of the New York Fed, Geithner has been, in The Washington Post’s words “a primary architect of the Bush administration’s response to the financial crisis,” and “has worked closely with [Paulson]to devise responses to the most critical events of the market turmoil.”

After reading all these confusing headlines, my daughter and I proposed after reading some ancient Rome history, that perhaps Caligula wasn’t insane after all, that perhaps when he put his favorite horse in the senate as he had a senate full of bozos like we do. That, would explain everything.
