Free Republic’s Take on Cap and Trade

Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax is going to raise electricity prices, increase gasoline prices, and ship American jobs overseas to countries like China and India.  This, we know. It would be a bureaucratic nightmare overseen by a confusing web of government agencies that would take and redistribute trillions of dollars from family budgets and workers payrolls.  This, we also know.  Even Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) admitted in the Washington Post this morning that: “The truth is, nobody knows for sure how this is going to work.” How encouraging. But what don’t we know?  Here are some facts you may not know about Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax: Homebuyers Beware. Trying to save up for a new home?  You may have to save up a little longer for your purchase.  The Democrats’ bill would dramatically increase … Read entire article »

Existence of God

Existence of God

Along with my reading, I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be An Athiest, Neil points his readers to this site which I found to be excellent,  GotQuestions.org? It’s a site that has 184,094 Bible Questions Answered! I went to the question: “Is there an argument for the existence of God?” I had to look at former atheist Lee Strobel’s quote: “Essentially, I realized that to stay an atheist, I would have to believe that nothing produces everything; non-life produces life; randomness … Read entire article »

Antartica Ice is Growing

In spite of the alarms sounding off in the mainstream media, in fact, in Antartica, over the past 30 years, the area of sea ice around the continent has expanded. Ice core drilling in the fast ice off Australia’s Davis Station in East Antarctica by the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Co-Operative Research Centre shows that last year, the ice had a maximum thickness of 1.89m, its densest in 10 years. The Pool is Open

…and the water is fine! After much labor in May; getting the leaves out, the cover off, the filter and pump cared for, and cleaning the sides of the pool, it is now finally swimable! After a chilly and very wet May and June, the water is starting to be swimable. We even put up a clothesline for the towels! … Read entire article »

Largest Tax Increase in American History Under the Guise of Climate Change

The so called reason for this large tax increase? In all it sounds good, limit pollution and usher in an era of cleaner energy. Critics of the legislation have said it will cost too much to our already weak economy, so they wanted safeguards in place. Even as Democrats have promised that this cap-and-trade legislation won’t pinch wallets, behind the scenes they’ve acknowledged the energy price tsunami that is coming. During the brief few days in which the bill was debated in the House Energy Committee, Republicans offered three amendments: one to suspend the program if gas hit $5 a gallon; one to suspend the program if electricity prices rose 10% over 2009; and one to suspend the program if unemployment rates hit 15%. Democrats defeated all of them. So how much … Read entire article »

Applying for a Job with the City of Bozeman

This should no longer surprise me, but it did: If you’re planning to apply for a job with the city of Bozeman, prepare to clean up your Facebook page. As part of routine background checks, the city asks job applicants to provide their usernames and passwords for their social-networking sites. And it has been doing it for years, city officials said. On the application, one can see the following: “Please list any and all, current personal or business Web sites, Web pages or memberships on any Internet-based chat rooms, social clubs or forums, to include, but not limited to: Facebook, Google, Yahoo, YouTube.com, MySpace, etc.,” states a city waiver form applicants are asked to sign. Three lines are provided for applicants to list log-in information for each site. As the article says, Big Brother … Read entire article »

Divine Design

“Only a rookie who knows nothing about science would say science takes away from faith. If you Really study science, it will bring you closer to God.” ~James Tour, Nanoscientist Still reading “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Athiest”…. The astronomical evidence for God must be strong when atheistic physicists admit that “the universe exploded out of nothingness,” and the agnostic astronomers claim that “supernatural forces” were so at work in the beginning that scientists are led back to “a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.” But the scientific evidence for God does not end with the Cosmological Argument. For many, the PRECISION with which the universe exploded into being provides even more persuasive evidence for the existence of God. This evidence, technically known as the Teleological … Read entire article »

It Happened Last Night

Found on FreeRepublic.com: It happened last night. There was debate on the floor of the House over some amendments to a spending bill. The amendments were offered by Republicans and concerned funding for ACORN and an investigation into Nancy Pelosi’s problems with the CIA. As I understand the story, the Democrats announced that there would be no more votes that evening, and Republicans started heading home. When enough Republicans were gone the Democrats headed back to the House floor and called for a vote to end debate on all amendments to the spending bill. Republicans scrambled to get back into the House, but it was too late. Democrats saved Pelosi and ACORN with their little chicanery. For now. Hope and change? … Read entire article »

ABC Will Anchor News from the White House

There was a time when Bill Clinton was in the White House, when it seemed he and his friends were trying to get away with so much, that he actually earned the nickname, “Slick Willy”. Soon we will have to honor Obama with a similar nickname. Yesterday, I only saw part of Obama speaking to the American Medical Association, wooing them into his health care program. I don’t know about you, but most doctors I know of, are very fearful of nationalized health care. (Some have even confided to me, if it goes through, they are leaving the country).  We have England warning us, “Don’t do it! We have it and People Die!” and we have Canadians coming over into OUR border seeking GOOD health care. Obama’s plan doesn’t even touch on the … Read entire article »

A Tale of Two Kinds of POW’s

A Tale of Two Kinds of POW’s

I haven’t given a lot of attention to the so named Guantanamo 4 being released in Bermuda, I will admit. However, I just couldn’t help a passing thought… no matter how you feel about Guantanamo, the handling of the aftermath of 911, John McCain, or President Bush, I couldn’t help but notice a real difference between these Prisoners. John McCain Briefly, the short version of McCain’s imprisonment: He was subjected to rope bindings and repeated beatings every … Read entire article »

The Universe Came to Be

The Universe Came to Be

“Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind.” -Albert Einstein Still reading I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist. The book in its third chapter gives some scientific proof of a beginning in time.  (too much to go into here, but I do recommend the book). Later in the chapter, though, it gives a philosophical line of evidence. Although I don’t quite grasp it, I found it interesting. But first, a little mention of … Read entire article »

25 Rich Athletes Who Went Broke

I thought this was interesting. Taken from Business Pundit: 25. Raghib “Rocket” Ismael Notre Dame/Dallas Cowboys star; received the largest 3-year deal in football history Estimated lifetime earnings: $20 Million No jail time, drug charges or bankruptcy here, just bad business moves. Financial vultures bled Ismael’s riches by selling him their “fool-proof” investments. After bypassing the NFL as the presumptive #1 pick, Ismael went to the Canadian Football League and signed the largest deal in their history. He played two years in Canada and 10 in the NFL, earning an estimated $18 million to $20 million in salary alone. He then started to invest in a series of ventures that went bust, including a Rock n’ Roll Café, COZ Records, a movie, cosmetics, nationwide phone-card dispensers, and caligraphy proverbs kiosks. Today, Ismael does a sports talk … Read entire article »

2 Japanese Detained In Italy; Concealed $134.5 BILLION Of U.S. Government Bonds In Briefcase

If you haven’t heard this headline yet, and maybe you haven’t nor won’t, it’s because this is the huge kind of news that gets neglected while most lap up the “cutesy stories” like the latest outfit Michelle Obama is wearing or the little girl who got an excuse for missing school from the president himself. The Italian Publication, The AgeziaDellaDogone is reporting that Italian authorities have detained 2 Japanese nationals who were attempting to cross into Switzerland with $134.5 BILLION in U.S. Government Bonds… hidden in a false-bottomed briefcase. According to Right Soup: If the certificates are real, Italy just won the lottery… their money laundering laws inflict a 40% penalty for failure to declare instruments and cash in excess of $10,000 Euros, which means they’d score a windfall of around $40 billion … Read entire article »

A Simple Analogy on Socialism

Something from Linda and George…. An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before but had once failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, … Read entire article »

A Day Trip to New York City

A Day Trip to New York City

I don’t get asked out very often, so when Chris called asking if I wanted to spend the day in New York, I said, “Yes!” I knew Laura wanted to go back after a taste of New York last October and Miquel hadn’t gone with us that time. So we all piled into Chrissie’s  Mustang and took off early (very early) Sunday Morning. We drove through some fog on the way up, but soon enough, the … Read entire article »

Chavez and Castro Worried?

There is a lot of truth sometimes in a joke. Reuters Reports: Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday that he and Cuban ally Fidel Castro risk being more conservative than U.S. President Barack Obama as Washington prepares to take control of General Motors Corp. During one of Chavez’s customary lectures on the “curse” of capitalism and the bonanzas of socialism, the Venezuelan leader made reference to GM’s bankruptcy filing, which is expected to give the U.S. government a 60 percent stake in the 100-year-old former symbol of American might. “Hey, Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama! Fidel, careful or we are going to end up to his right,” Chavez joked on a live television broadcast. … Read entire article »

Playboy’s Rape List

Megyn Kelly, in a very calm attack, considering the circumstances, criticized Playboy after columnist Guy Cimbalo generated what some are calling a “rape list,” naming ten women he deems conservative and arguing that they generate a desire for hate sex among men. Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly (also one of the women mentioned on the list) responds: More or less it goes like this: ” Earlier this week. Playboy magazine’s online site unleashed a vile attack. It rained all last night and most of today. In fact, as far as rain goes, we have had a lot of it this spring. It’s even chilly today. Microsoft May Move Jobs Offshore

From Bloomberg Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Officer Steven Ballmer said the world’s largest software company would move some employees offshore if Congress enacts President Barack Obama’s plans to impose higher taxes on U.S. companies’ foreign profits. “It makes U.S. jobs more expensive,” Ballmer said in an interview. “We’re better off taking lots of people and moving them out of the U.S. as opposed to keeping them inside the U.S.” Obama on May 4 proposed outlawing or restricting about $190 billion in tax breaks for offshore companies over the next decade. Such business groups as the National Foreign Trade Council, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable have denounced the proposed overhaul. … Read entire article »
