An answer is tort reform (malpractice lawsuit reform)

From Fox news:

President Obama is taking a small step on one issue, malpractice lawsuit reform, that Republicans believe is an easy way to reduce health care costs.

Obama's latest proposal "incorporates the best ideas from Democrats and Republicans, including some of the ideas that Republicans offered during the health care summit, like funding state grants on medical malpractice reform," Obama said this week.

The president agrees with medical profession that defensive medicine, doctors ordering unnecessary tests to protect themselves, is pushing up the cost of health care.

"The courts are clogged up with these cases, physicians are afraid of being hauled into court and as a result order tests they ordinarily would not order," said Dr. Cecil Wilson of American Medical Association.

Obama is only proposing to give the states $25 million for planning grants and demonstration projects, not national reform.

But a liberal think tank found the some states have already tried such reforms and that expanding them nationally would reap massive savings.

"We found that roughly, between $92 to $207 billion dollars per year can be saved from reducing defensive medicine," David Kendall, a senior fellow with Third Way, told Fox News.

How? What some states have done is to allow unlimited "actual" damages for injuries, but cap damages for what is called "pain and suffering" -- limiting that to $250,000.

But doctors would still worry about their reputations, so analysts don't think that would end unnecessary testing. But something else might.

"The specific proposal is for a health court or something like it, where it would be a specialized court that would be devoted just for making medical decisions and medical judgments," Kendall said.

"Another would be to say that physicians who practice according to certain scientific principles, performance measure, would be presumed to have done it right, and they could introduce that evidence in court," Wilson said.

Analysts say only 2 percent of injured patients actually file suit, in part because it's such an onerous and drawn-out process. So they say specialized courts and other reforms might actually make it easier for injured patients to recover damages.

"The speed at which you could get compensated would be a matter of months," Kendall said. "Right now, it takes an average of three to five years for a patient to get an award."

And with longer lawsuits, more than half the money can go to lawyers and the courts. Doctors' groups point to the success of "tort reform" in Texas, which had been losing doctors by the thousands. After the reforms, it licensed the highest number of doctors in its history and brought care to many areas of the states that were begging for care.

I don't know Chuck Norris personally, so I don't really feel I am a person to defend him, but since you don't know him either, I would think twice before making such a wild accusation.

A little research would show that he is likely not racist:

Norris was born in Ryan, Oklahoma, the son of Wilma (née Scarberry) and Ray Norris, who was a mechanic, bus driver, and truck driver. Norris' paternal grandfather (an immigrant) and maternal grandmother were of Irish descent, while his paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather were Cherokee Native Americans. Norris was named after Carlos Berry, his father's minister.[

Norris describes his childhood as downbeat. He was nonathletic, shy, and scholastically mediocre. Other children taunted him about his mixed ethnicity.

Chuck was asked how he would like to be remembered. Chuck's answer was as a Humanitarian. He has gotten a good start by:

1.) Being the spokesperson for United Way, doing an eight-minute commercial, which helped bring in over two billion dollars.

2.) Veterans Administration spokesperson visiting over 12 V.A. hospitals and speaking with World War II, Korean and Vietnam War Veterans including one from World War I.

3.) Winning the 1998 Epiphany award on Walker, Texas Ranger for the best Christian program.

4.) The Jewish Humanitarian Man of the Year Award.

5.) Actively involved with the Make A Wish Foundation for 20 years by making dreams come true for terminally ill children.

6.) BMI Music Television Award for Walker, Texas Ranger theme song, "Eyes of a Ranger".

7.) Texas Ranger Hall of Fame.

8.) Commissioned Police Officer for Terrell, Texas.

9.) Motivational speaker for many Christian ministries, such as T.D. Jakes Ministry, Trinity Broadcasting, and Bill Glass Crusade.

Pat
I disagree with your charge of racism. I saw nothing that suggested such a thing.
But it is a common argument from those who can't seem understand why others are not under Obama's spell and who disagree with his polices and his demeanor.

Now, I allowed two of your comments to go through on this post, however, one, was completely unacceptable for the blog, I don't allow that kind of language, so please understand why two were approved and one was not.

Just a few thoughts since I don't have much time right now. I hope I don't sound too illiterate as I'm not great at politics but I think you'll get the gyst of my thoughts.

1. If this is such a good thing for our country, why are our Legislators omitting themselves and keeping their current coverage?

2. If this is such a good thing for our country, and such a majority want and need it, why not make it a State issue, which at best it should be anyway, and put it up for referendum?

3. Why are our Legislators completely ignoring the people they SERVE, who have made it very clear that they do not want government run health care?

4. This may be a good time to reread our Declaration of Independence and see if any of it sounds hauntingly familiar.

5. Perhaps it's time to reread out Constitution and find the part that gave the Government the power to go into business for itself. (HealthCare, GMC...) I know I need to have another look. I only recall the parts that said the government is supposed to GOVERN.

5. On a long shot, perhaps it's Tort reform that's needed, not health care reform. Perhaps if everyone wasn't so hot to sue at the drop of a hat, health care costs would come down.

I'm stopping here..I'm getting fire up and have to go grocery shopping. Get out of my way ladies, here I come!!! :)

One more point. For some reason the American people think the Health Insurance Industry is really the Health Industry. It's NOT. The Health industry is doctors, hosptials, labs, pharmacuetical,

The Health Insurance industry makes rules and takes our money. Since they are trying to make profits and take care of their investors with our money, they deny coverages to people who really need healthcare, just like banks. Have you ever heard someone say that they went to a bank and asked for a loan and were denied because they did not have the assests to get the loan, Well if they had the assests they would not need the loan! This works fine for banks as this is business, and most americans will not die if your loan is turned down.
Do you think healthcare should be based on the same business principles? Well it is! If you cannot pay or afford the high premiums, you just die, because it hurts profits. 45,000 americans every year die because of a business based on profits.

Think America.

One more point. For some reason the American people think the Health Insurance Industry is really the Health Industry. It’s NOT.

Scary thought.

It's as if you want all opposition to disappear and go away.
It's not really how it all works, and we can be Thankful for it, as if who ever is voted in and in charge, say George Bush, I am sure you were very thankful for opposition.
So now that the shoe is on the other foot, you also need to be glad for dissenting votes and opinions. It's how this country runs.

Again, on this subject THEY, not my party, not that I really have one, as I don't feel t here is a person in Washington that represents ME, but THEY say

"....it would raise premiums, it’s a windfall for drug companies and insurance companies, votes were secured through backroom deals, it cuts hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicare, and it raises taxes."

That's more than a few concessions.

Comment on Obama Health Care: Soprano Tactics? by Xerraire

Pat,
First of all to say, I thought when reading your comments, you shouldn't be ashamed to leave your full name on your very strong beliefs concerning health care, but out of respect for your wishes, I have edited your comments to leave out your last name.

My next thought was you need your own blog!
:)

Barack Obama is president, not dictator. We have a balance of powers in this government to secure that. If you want a dictator, who has full reign over what does and doesn't go in certain bills, you are in the wrong country. There are a few I could suggest for you.

The American people, (that you feel should "wake up") in a majority, doesn't like this bill. I wouldn't doubt the intelligence of a questioning peoples. They are not swallowing in any kind of faith legislation that by Pelosi's own admission, they won't know what's in it till it's signed (video)» http://www.xerraireart.com/blog/2010/03/09/pelosi-wants-to-pass-it-so-you-can-know-whats-in-it/

The American people ARE awake, and that's what is bothering you; they are paying attention to the details of this bill, it's costly, it's uncertain on the outcomes, and even democrats voting for it, are expressing their opinions: it would raise premiums, it’s a windfall for drug companies and insurance companies, votes were secured through backroom deals, it cuts hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicare, and it raises taxes.(video) » http://www.xerraireart.com/blog/2010/03/12/democrats-reveal-facts-about-health-care/

The tactics used at one time when it was the other party doing it, received comments from Joe Biden such as this: Biden: “I pray God when the Democrats take back control we don’t make the kind of naked power grab you are doing.”

and Obama said this: “Nuclear option is against the founder’s intent.”

Health care reform doesn't require a 2000 plus page bill and trillions of dollars, it just doesn't.

In Australia they have a 1% levy on everyone over a certain level of income. Plain and simple, and everyone has access to health care. I feel the American people would support something like that. not a costly unsure and untested 2000 page bloated piece of paybacks to everyone whose arm could be twisted to vote for it.

I have several lithophane tea sets. There is a web cite - Helen's Japanese Lithophanes. She has actual photo's of different lithophanes and seperates them noting those easier to find to the more rare. Very interesting. One of my sets is the Loving Giesha's (two Giesha's).
There are a number of sets on e-bay with a wide range of prices. I just searched on Lithophane.
Hope this helps.

I love the B&A and BWI trails! Our family spends a lot of time on them biking and walking. My longest bike ride on the trail was from our house in Hanover around the Linthicum side of the BWI loop to around the 3 mile mark to Fish Paws for lunch then back home. My longest walk was in training for my annual Breast Cancer 3-day walk was 21 miles from Marley Station (10.5 mile marker) to the top of the trail in Annapolis and back.

Thanks for featuring these parks on your site, they are awesome and your photos are awesome, Barb!

This video is my favorite. I have listened to it about 20 times. It is really spooky. Every thing he says is about Obama. It is like he is warning us nearly 50! years! ago!.

I am going to make it my mission to show this to everybody I know.

My Grandmother has a set with the Japanese lady at the bottom of the cup - her design is of a gold dragon with red markings. They bought it in Port Said, Egypt when they were migrating from Italy to Australia in the early 1950s.

And as far as the smart phones , we're probably the first generation of heavy computer users approaching our golden years. I'm 50 and can hardly dial my cell phone and I'm supposed to type (obviously not a texter) and do other computer functions on it when I'm 70?? Maybe they'll make laptop sized smart phones :)

If it helps any...I have an HP laptop (about 15 mos old). I was growling at it again just before I saw your post. I have not been happy with it. I did work with a Dell laptop at work and we had no problems with it. I used all Dell at work and my son has a Dell PC....no problems. My husband bought an HP laptop last year...nothing but trouble. Needless to say.....HP has not won my favor. I personally love the freedom of the laptop and will probably never buy another PC for myself.

bohzo Barb

Jasper looks serious about that moth, my Siamese is almost 20 years old and he still tries to catch bugs. His name is Sabastian and he is gross because when he catches them he will eat them and I can hear the disgusting crunching. Then to make matters worse he wants to kiss me. GROSS!

Have a great day!

Comment on Obama Health Care: Device That is Implantable by Joe

There's a pretty starling fact in President Obama’s Healthcare Reform bill (H.R. 3200) that 95% of Americans aren’t being told about and won't like. I challenge everyone to visit the bill now available online for the very first time because of Sen. Brown’s win in Massachusetts. (Read H.R. 3200, not all 2800 pages of it; but start on page 1000, where it talks about this Implantable Device we are talking about here on this blog.

The Obama Administration would have rather passed this Bill and shoved it down our throats before any of us had the chance to really see their motive and what this Bill contained. President Obama, Pelosi, Reed, and scores of other extreme left-winger's still want to rush it through before too many of us see for ourselves what this Bill contains. I am giving you the Chapter and Paragraphs where you can read for yourself about this one particular issue.

The Obama Health care bill under Class II (Paragraph 1, Section B) specifically includes ‘‘(ii) a class II device that is implantable." Then on page 1004 it describes what the term "data" means in paragraph 1, section B:

(14) In this paragraph, the term ‘data’ refers to
(15) information respecting a device described in paragraph (1),
(16) including claims data, patient survey data, standardized
(17) analytic files that allow for the pooling and analysis of
(18) data from disparate data environments, electronic health
(19) records, and any other data deemed appropriate by the
(20) Secretary"

What exactly is a class II device that is implantable? Let’s see...

Already approved by the U.S. Government, the FDA in 2004, a class II implantable device is an "implantable radiofrequency transponder system for patient identification and health information." The purpose of a class II device is to collect data in medical patients such as "claims data, patient survey data, standardized analytic files that allow for the pooling and analysis of data from disparate data environments, electronic health records, and any other data deemed appropriate by the Secretary."

So, will everyone be covered??????

And, does that mean everyone will be chipped?????

Under Obamacare, it is clear that this device would be implanted in people who become covered by public health care. Maybe not all people at once, but very quickly and steadily over time. President Obama intends to pass this Bill with this included. He has to do this; and make no mistake; he will do this with or without the support of the American people and/or The Republican Party!

But, how can it happen?????

"With the reform of the private insurance companies, who charge outrageous rates, many people will switch their coverage to a more affordable insurance plan. This means the number of people who choose the public option will increase. This also means the number of people chipped will be plentiful as well. The adults who choose to have a chip implanted are the lucky (yes, lucky) ones in this case. Children who are "born in the United States who at the time of birth is not otherwise covered under acceptable coverage" will be qualified and placed into the “CHIP” or Children's Health Insurance Program (what a convenient name). With a name like CHIP it would seem consistent to have the chip implanted into every child. Children conceived by parents who are already covered under the public option will be implanted with a chip by the consent of the parent. Eventually EVERYONE will be implanted with a chip. And with the price and coverage of the public option being so competitive with the private companies, the private will not possibly be able to survive".

Once the Bill Passes, what can we do about it??????

It will be the duty of every American and especially every True Christian to vote against EVERY SINGLE POLITITION, DEMORCRAT, REPUBLICAN or OTHERWISE who voted for any form of this Bill! Then "We the People" will have a duty to replace these seats with true God Fearing Leaders. The leaders we want back into office are those that will expose the EVIL Intentions of the Obama Administration and reverse the Obamacare Plan. Not do away with the Bill in its entirety, for there are truths mixed with lies, and good mixed with evil, within the document. This is how Satan works. He mixes the Truth with Lie’s to attempt to deceive all of us. I am NOT calling our President Satan, or sugesting he is the Anti-Christ, trully, I am not; but, this is simply one of the tools the Anti-Christ will use; so, knowing this, why would you want to be a part of placing this tool in his tool-box!!!

In closing, I say this. You may call me a fanatic or a host of many other incriminating titles; just like they did to George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Payne, Hamilton, and countless of others who took a stance and did something about those who tried to take our freedoms away. Call me what you will. But do not lie to yourself, ask yourself this one important question, doesn’t all of this sound just like something that was prophesized over 2000 years ago and placed in our Holy Bible? Open the good ol King James Version Bible and read the three verses I have placed below; or search for them on your PC.

Rev. 13:16-18
Rev. 14: 9-10
Rev. 22: 20 (The Good News, and a happy ending)

I believe these are exciting times for all Christians because this was all meant specifically for us, We the People! I say to all of you fake, cowardly so-called leaders; something I use to tell all of my men I put through Navy Boot camp; “Lead, follow or get the hell out of my way!

Make no mistake, this Bill IS going to pass with this particular device becomming law. Get educated!!!

Global warming is a huge conspiracy that was never proven and wasted so many of our tax dollars---not just in the research, but also in the organizations which enforced our "get clean" acts. If anything, global warming is a good thing, if it were actually man-made, as there is a likeliness of an ice age to hit us and kill us a heck of a lot more than simply being too hot.

It's been a while now, but I finally reached 3300+. The flow was excellent yesterday and I reached 3314 using the usual High end words, oxyphenbutazone and microtechniques. In addition, I started and ended the game with 7 letter words. Those were good for an extra 140 or so, which is what pushed me over the top. Happy scrabblin' to ya's.

I've been playing your online scrabble. I'm not real sharp on websites and how to go about using them, responding to others, etc. I get kind of dismayed at all the negative stuff about using the net. All that has stopped me from communicating as much as others have. Kind of like still being a hippy in the year 2010.

I find your pics fascinating and your written material interesting. I thank you for putting out the solitaire scrabble. I wish you well in all your things that you do. Here's to positive souls using the internet.

Have a great day.

I just found this site and am thrilled. My set is grays/white/blue with a tall pot (about 8), sugar bowl & pot w/covers, creamer, six cups/saucers. My geisha is rather serene. The question that several have asked is how or where to have something like this appraised. All I know is that my uncle was a Flying Tiger in China during WWII, and he brought it to Mom. Any information or referral to appraiser would be appreciated.

bohzo (hello)

This winter was really not bad in Michigan, as a matter of fact it seems like winter really never came. Did you take those photographs they are incredible! I like the Cardinal and Blue Jay.

It looks like you got all Michigans snow, i hope that it is not like this all the time.
Have a great day, thanks for visiting.

bohzo (hello) Barb

I voted for Obama but am growing tired of all the promises that seem unanswered, i am so confused, i am mad at the Republicans with Bush and now i am mad at the Democrats, so what do i have left? I hope someone comes along that has follow through. I have always voted Democrat and for the first time in my life i just am not sure about either party.

Have a great day! Great blog on Obama and homelessness.

So quickly you disregard the poor soul who's parents lived and worked here all their lives and their child wants a good education, or better than he is getting and the parents can't help and the government won't.

Thanks I corrected #13

Oh, I think it's a total rejection of Canada's health care, and he isn't the only one.

So did Jean Chretien:
Jean Chretien takes his own family to private health clinics. In fact, he doesn’t just use U.S.-style private clinics. He actually goes to private clinics in the U.S.

And he flies to those U.S. private clinics on Canadian government jets, paid for by Canadian tax dollars.

According to access-to-information documents obtained by the Canadian Alliance, on Feb. 8, 1999, Chretien and two aides flew from Vancouver to Minnesota, home of the Mayo Clinic. According to air force flight logs, they flew back to Ottawa that afternoon with Chretien’s daughter. And on Dec. 11 of the same year, Chretien went back to the clinic, this time just with his wife and his aide.

These trips were courtesy of the Canadian Forces 412th Squadron, which has flown literally thousands of nautical miles taking Chretien back and forth to the clinic.

So did Liberal MP Belinda Stronach

Liberal MP Belinda Stronach, who is battling breast cancer, travelled to California last June for an operation that was recommended as part of her treatment, says a report.

Stronach’s spokesman, Greg MacEachern… said the decision was made because the U.S. hospital was the best place to have it done due to the type of surgery required.

While the decision to leave Canada for treatment can be painted negatively, leaving the province is hardly telling given that the province only has 500,000 people living there. With a smaller population than a number of Canadian cities, it would be hard to argue that access to an appropriate heart specialist could be guaranteed. However, as a politician, he will have to justify his need to leave Canada.

reforms need to change health care as important for a better quality of life of people in countries with low economic resources, according findrxonline this reform should be based on obtaining prices and lower costs, improve medical centers and keep people better served, because these are basic concepts for a better performance in the health system.

Hello, I have the tea set with a different japanese lady on the bottom of the tea cup. It has the gold trim but the pattern of the village is done in colour. Our father was in the Royal Canadian Navy and was overseas during the latter part of the 1940 and early 1950's. He purchased the set during that period and he said the picture in the bottom of the tea cup was that of the artist's wife. In addition to the tea cups he purchased a complete dinner set, platter, bowls and tea set. Has similar markings as those above - the pattern above may have worn a bit as the downward stroke in the first character is longer in our set. We used our dinner set for every special occassion growing, birthdays, Christmas and Thanksgiving. My mother passed them over to me many years ago and they were used a couple of times since then but otherwise stayed in a box in an attic so to speak. I will be passing them over to our youngest son and he and his family will be using them for special dinner parties. For all of us that have them - they have travelled a great distance during a very turmultuous time in the history of the world. Personally, if anyone kind find out the names of he family or business that created these beautiful works of art I would love to know so that I can get in touch with them and see if they would like to have a little of the history their forefathers created but in their homes again.

I have a set that my mother gave me. I have no idea where she got it. It has a village painted on it in silver. The village consists of 2 huts, a bridge and a water wheel. There are trees and mountains in the background. I have a six place setting of dessert plate, saucer and cups with Geisha in bottom, along with sugar, creamer and tea pot. The bottom says kutoni china, hand painted, made in Japan. I think they are lovely! I keep them in my china cabinet.

In doing alittle more research I was blessed to find a copy on ebay. I'm so excited. I reading an earlier emial from Jan. 8th. it brought back memories. My father was a music director in a church in Tucson in the 70's and did I love America so he was probably involved with that performance in some way. What wonderful memories.

Thank you,

As someone participating in that jobless recovery in the truest sense of the word... :)

I've considered the entrepreneurial bit, but I like the stability.

Good news is in my August/September job hunt people were only hiring for short-term contracts and now it's almost all direct/permanent hire positions.

Can anyone suggest where I can obtain the split track for the Easter Cantata "The Last Week" and also for "Let The Whole World Know"? both were by JW Peterson. The Jamaica Youth For Christ Chorale did quite a few of his songs in the 1970's and now that I am a choit director I really would greatly appreciate finding the background music to these songs. Thanks.

Well it's been a while since I scored the 3212. Since then, (and about 15 attempts later), I've managed to score a 3227, and more recently, a 3249. I have searched high and low and cannot find 15 letter words worth more than what I used to achieve the 3200+ scores. So now, the technical merit is over and it's just a matter of superior" flow". 3300 may be possible, but it's gonna take a heck of a round to do it. Best to all you scrabble players out there. Do well.

Ok, this is an enormous "DUH!" Are not children raised in two parent homes more likely to be healthier and thus not need as much medical care? You'd think they would encourage people to get married and establish stable environments for their families. I have no desire to even imagine the agenda behind this one.

I, too, was just looking for something on John W. Peterson. He has got to be my Favorite composer! I grew up listening to and singing his songs. What a talent from the Lord! So glad I found a place where I can buy his music! I was able to sing I Love America!, with him directing, in Tucson in 1976, what a thrill! I have so much of his music. If someone wants words to his songs or copies, could I give it to them? I know what it's like to try and find old music. Thank you Barb, God bless you!

That's a good quote. I know a few people who are unhappy with their lives but never consider what they could do to change their situation (eg. one person I know hates her career as a teacher in a particular school, but won't think about applying to teach at a different school, or else applying for a totally different job).

Change does take a lot of effort. I read the latest book by Malcolm Gladwell a few days ago, called "The Outliers". In it he discusses research that shows that there is no significant talent difference between students at a music college. Instead, the only thing that was linked to a difference in skill was the hours that each student put in per week (the most talented students put in 80 hours a week just practising!)

Aww, that's sweet! Is it true? I always think people make stories like that up just because they sound cute.

I love Grandma's who are like that, always so positive and encouraging about everything. My grandmother can hardly walk, yet she still enjoys her life so much (mostly vicariously, through her family) and she always seems to be happy. She says that she wants to live for a long, long time yet ;)

I totally know how you feel I have been in that same situation for going on two years now and the more I try to be good and say the right things and be the good girlfriend. He just seems to do more stuff to hurt me. He has gotten home later and later at night and he has odd work hours. He is chatting online each nite till the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes I think the only reason he comes home from work is for the kids at least he does that. I cant say Im perfect either I can be crabby and I go thru depression, but that doesn't justify him being abusive to me and raging at me if I even try to have an opinion. We are supposed to get married in June but he has changed so much. He says he loves me and at times I truly believe him, he hasn't hit me yet and thats cuz I walk on eggshells constantly. He tries to pic fights but I go to another room. I wish he loved me like he should. I know he thinks its my fault and he stays out late to punish me. Sometimes he even laughs in his sleep. I assume because he thinks its funny that hes railroading me and getting by with it. I am to blame for everything and he always says Im selfish and wrong and illogical. I totally feel for those of you who are going thru this. Just Pray! Thats what I do.

Hi
We have a coffee set with the Geisha face - 6 cups & saucers; small jug; sugar bowl & a tall coffee pot & lid.
My dad was in the Royal Navy in the 50's & I think he brought it back from either China or Japan.
It has orange & gold dragons on it.
Anyone else got a coffee set like this?

Those ride-on's are compulsory when you have little kids around ;) My sister is 7 now but a few years ago she HAD to go on at least one ride-on whenever we went anywhere with her. It kept her relatively happy for the rest of the trip, though!

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

We also have a complete set, except for 1 broken cup, of the
Lucky white with green, gold and red dragon. We have 5 cups, 6 saucers, 6 teaplates, sugar bowl with lid, creamer and teapot. They were purchased sometime around WWII by my wife's father. He also purchased another set with various pictures of birds on it. This set only has some Chinese/Japanese characters on the bottom and no geisha in the cups - 6 cups, saucers and teaplates, 1 larger serving plate and a small teapot. We now live in Canada and have a couple of dealers as friends so wen will see if we can get some kind of valuation over the next week.

I have a full tea set with gasha girl pictures in the bottom of the cups. The designs on the tea set are islands with trees etc. This was brought my my uncle for my mum and dad as a wedding present in the second world war. Can anyone tell me the value of the set or where i can get a true valuation of the set!

Thanks

Oookay... I gotta say, I don't mind the assertion that black people cannot be racist. Or that all white people are racist.

We all have internalized racist and sexist sterotypes (at least subconsciously). It's pretty hard for any person (whatever gender or colour) to make the blanket statement that they are not at all racist OR sexist. Some of the most racist or sexist people claim "but I love woman/black people" - it's not about whether you consciously "love" them or not, it's about internalized cultural biases and sterotypes.

When I studied sociology at University we were taught that racism was something a dominant/larger group did against a less powerful group (usually a minority group). It may be bad and harmful for a white person to "racially" attack a black person, but it's not exactly "racism" (or it doesn't fit into the typical definition of racism) because the white person is from the more powerful group and the group that has fewer, and more positive, stereotypes associated with it. A racial slur is more harmful if directed against the minority/less powerful group. The same goes for sexism.

Since my last post, I have reached 2610, 2616, and just yesterday I hit 2665. The last was with "subcategorizing, and anthropomorphic". I've been searching the dictionary for high scoring words. It's getting to be kind of slim pickin's. Great scrabble to all.

I live in New Zealand and we don't have Thanksgiving - but perhaps we should. It is such a beautiful tradition to keep. Instead we just have the consumption of Christmas next month ;) Some of my younger siblings don't realize what they have - they are so used to just getting everything, and being able to get everything.

It sounds like a particularly nasty version of the XP Antivirus or WinAntivirus malware.

I'll have to check out Killbox, it looks pretty good.

Tools I love for malware cleanups are Process Explorer and Autoruns, both by Sysinternals.

Process Explorer, in particular, allows me to enter suspicious process and thread names and find all the processes that are holding that suspect process open.

Well the seemingly impossible has occurred. I hit 2536 yesterday, using the words, " psychosexuality and hystorectomized". How's that for an unusual combination. The flow was excellent again. When I laid down the final 7 letters of psychosexuality, I got 1101 points for it, all resultant word combos included. That is also a personal best for me for one word. I would call my next goal 2600, but I think if I could score 2536 again, that would be a real treat.

Just hit 2272 last night, using "juxtapositional and weatherization" I'm not sure if I'll ever reach 2300, but you know I'll try.

It is true what Matthew says about not being biased against millionaires just because they are millionaires. It does depend on how they get there. Wisconsin senator Herb Kohl owns a major league sports team in Milwaukee; I'm sure that contributes heftily to his net worth, but I don't think owning the team is any part of his pay for serving in the Senate.

However much money our representatives make, WE THE PEOPLE should decide how much their service is worth to us. Who else gets to give themselves pay raises?

Hey Barb! It's been a while since I've been around these parts, and it's good to be back.

That "state average wage" wage sounds like an interesting idea, but I'd caution against the bias against millionaires just because they're millionaires.

Millionaires are our next door neighbors and usually the more successful ones. The vast majority of millionaires today are self-made, from their own abilities and skills.

Limiting the pay of congress people sounds good, but limiting it too much would make it difficult for the "average joes" we really need in congress to quit their other jobs to spend time serving the country.

Instead, the onus lies with us, the voters, to stand up and throw the real bums out regardless of their pay grade.

Wow what a rush. 2249 points at exactly 1249 pm, Alaska time, using the words "quadruplicating, and governmentalize", on this day 11-17-09. I can only describe it as euphoric when the second 15 letter word goes on the board. The "flow" in this round was probably the best I've ever felt. I guess I'm saying this to no one but God. Thanks God! What a trip. Happy Scrabble to all.

I have read alot about them ,,but no one seams to beable to gaive a price as to wha they are worth, I saw a set on E-Bay for 3000.00. My Grandmother would be about 101 if she was still here. Have no clue how she got the set.

I did it!. I finally reached the 2000 mark, and then some. I scored 2152 points using "juxtapositional and governmentalize". One across the top and one across the bottom. Those two words were worth a total of 1700+ by themselves. It took me 4 tries to do it, but I now believe it, it can be done.

This is the kind of story I watch Antiques Roadshow for, the family antique that no one knows they have. Their surprise is always so much stronger than those who know (or hope) they have something of value.

But your find is more endearing because it involves those who went through the Great Depression. Most are gone now, but they were a very strong generation.

It is my opinion that lawmakers should make the average amount of the workers in the state they represent. That would motivate them to bring jobs to the US and to their State really quick!!

My mom found a set in a thrift store and knew how much I loved Japanese things.I couldn't get over it.Anyways,I have a tea pot with a bamboo handle,3 tea cups with the geisha girl in the brown with the the two birds inside also, sugar dish without the lid :( ,6 small plates,6 dessert plates.
I did some research on my mark and found they were possibly Nippon Tokusei from the end of the 50's and the mark is a cover up of the showa reign?? Anybody heard anything about this set??

Yes, John Peterson wrote a great deal of fine music. However, I notice on your list "Gracious Saviour, Who Didst Honour." It's possible that Peterson wrote a song with that title, but unlikely. It was written by Emily Shirreff, who was born back in 1814. Peterson may have composed a new tune for it, or arranged the old tune, but he didn't write the text. To learn more, I invite you to check my daily blog, Wordwise Hymns.

I would have to agree with Xerraire. It is a far stretch, however Mike under: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/CFRSearch.cfm?FR=820.65

would be the closest to anthing that traceability, or identification can be misinterpretated.

My concern, is why would this short section "Subtitle C--National Medical Device Registry" been written in the health care bill in the first place.

This type of action is supposedly done on a regular basis. Could this be a clarification of information or job functions duties...?

Which it does not clarirify.

Why does it reference the Code of Federal Regulations or the Department of Health that was recently written in April of 2009?

If this testing and reporting of "bad medical devices" is done on a regular basis, then there would be no need to insert this subsection into HR3200, etc... We would know this is done on a regular basis, due to many recalls of medical devices, and medications and what not.

Again, my concern is Why is this part introduced into the bill or written into the bill if it is already a part of our testing process?

This is why "conspiracy theorists" run wild with information that is not clearly defined. This is why we have Lawyers and journalists, who supposedly research and investigate pertinent information, or questionable information.

Yet this is not being done.

Conspiracy Theorists would not have a leg to stand on, if somone would just provide the information requested.

So I can see both sides of the story. Unless the questions have been addressed for the "laymen", on a clear and consise level, many people should be aware of this subchapter in the health care bill.

Good article, Barb... You and I know that Obama is a complete socialist, and is trying to move the entire country in that direction, and we have to keep praying, writing, and petitioning to keep him (and Pelosi) from getting his way, or we as a country are going down the tubes FAST. It truly is frightening, isn't it?

Haven't these people ever played SimCity? If you raise your taxes, no one wants to live in your city. If you lower them, you get more people and thus more money. Honestly when the makers of a computer game understand more about economics than our politicians, we are in trouble.

I have a tea pot, creamer and sugar and 5 cups with 6 saucers. The cups are extremely delicate and I'm surprised only one has been broken. The design is black and white scenery; there are no markings on the bottom of any of the pieces. I purchased the set in 1966 in San Francisco "Chinatown". Mine have the head of the geisha which appears when the cup is held up to the light. I'm in the process of moving and trying to decide what to keep so went looking for the possible worth of the set, but haven't found any estimates.

Nice shot of the Osprey. The best time to go to the dam is Oct/Nov. The BE's flock there formating season. Problem is so do the photogs. At peak time they almost need traffic monitors for the crowd.

I don't know who you are, but I bless God for you!

I learned some of Mr. Peterson's cantatas and music many, many years ago and I've never forgotten them. For some reason however, I'd confused his last name as Christen, and I can't tell you the hours I have spent at the computer, stumped at trying to find his music or some reference to him! As I was about to walk away from the computer tonight in frustration, the name Peterson came to mind. I GOOGLED it and there was your wonderful web site.

God bless you, bless you, bless you! I am a very, happy woman now!

But they are not breeding rabbits just to kill and burn, they are rabbits that would have been killed and disposed of anyway, so why not dispose of them in a way that benefits somebody?
