Retro

Retro is fun. I like looking back to easier times; good times spent with family and remembering songs and the way things looked back then…. What a pleasant experience it has been to work for a new client, Paul & Kathy Hittle of Severn Gas Pumps. Going to their house and workstation was like time travel. They restore old gas pumps, even as old as the 1900’s, all the way up to the 1960’s. They also … Read entire article »

Free Republic’s Take on Cap and Trade

Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax is going to raise electricity prices, increase gasoline prices, and ship American jobs overseas to countries like China and India.  This, we know. It would be a bureaucratic nightmare overseen by a confusing web of government agencies that would take and redistribute trillions of dollars from family budgets and workers payrolls.  This, we also know.  Even Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) admitted in the Washington Post this morning that: “The truth is, nobody knows for sure how this is going to work.” How encouraging. But what don’t we know?  Here are some facts you may not know about Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax: Homebuyers Beware. Trying to save up for a new home?  You may have to save up a little longer for your purchase.  The Democrats’ bill would dramatically increase … Read entire article »

Higher Gas Prices, Again.

I have always been on the side that government should stay out of business. They can’t run themselves, why on earth would we trust them to run a business. Obama buys up the car industry, and according to Ralph Nader, not necessary: The proximate cause of the bankruptcy was supposed to be the inability of GM and the government’s auto task force to reach an accommodation with GM’s bondholders. But late last week, the bondholder problem was moving toward rapid resolution, and was clearly resolvable. Why then are GM and its multibillion government financier proceeding with bankruptcy? The bankruptcy and the GM restructuring plan are the product of a secretive, unaccountable, Wall Street-minded government task force that assumed power because of a Congressional abdication of historic magnitude. By all rights, the restructuring plan … Read entire article »

Pay More for a Car

Here’s something to look forward to. In the name of the environment, or likely more in the name of lining someone’s pockets with money, we get to pay more for cars in the future. “The government is now designing our cars. It’s out of the hands of vehicle manufacturers,” said auto industry consultant Larry Rinek. Isn’t that scary, right there? Obama has ordered the struggling auto industry to make more fuel-efficient cars under tough new national standards to cut emissions and increase gas mileage. Under the new standards, U.S. passenger vehicles and light trucks must average 35.5 miles per gallon (6.62 litres/100km) by 2016. The current law, approved by the Bush administration, requires a similar gain by 2020. Obama said the new standards would save 1.8 billion barrels of oil over the lifetime of the … Read entire article »

Special ID to Buy Gas in 2010?

Having been hit by an uninsured motorist, I can understand how a measure like the one slated for Hawaii, might help cut that down, but there is something unsettling about a special card to buy gas. In a move completely ignored by the corporate media, the state of Hawaii has introduced resolutions in the Senate and House to initiate a study by the Insurance Commissioner to determine how best to deny gasoline purchases to uninsured motorists. In order to do this, the Hawaii Senate and House concur that “motor vehicle insurance companies issue motor vehicle insurance cards to insured drivers and to require that the card be either scanned electronically or examined by the sellers of gasoline in order to purchase gasoline.”   … Read entire article »

Pelosi Pork And Big Oil

While we consider big Oil and the price of gas (petrol)… Oh by the way, did you know that big oil companies DON’T control the majority of the oil, about 70 – 90% is owned by, guess what. GOVERNMENTS, depending how you count it. Now it all starts to make sense: Yet Big Oil is pretty small next to the industry’s true giants: the national oil companies (NOCs) owned or controlled by the governments of oil-rich countries, which manage over 90% of the world’s oil, depending on how you count. Of the 20 biggest oil firms, in terms of reserves of oil and gas, 16 are NOCs. Saudi Aramco, the biggest, has more than ten times the reserves that Exxon does. Those with misgivings about oil—that its price is too high, that reserves are … Read entire article »

No Recess For Some

A few days ago, I blogged how in spite of the crisis facing our nation, congress decided to take an early holiday. Since Democrat Nancy Pelosi controls the cameras, we can’t see on C-Span how some House Republicans stayed behind to carry on with this issue, debating how best to handle it. “In an urgent memo sent to GOP Members and staff Saturday (“A Call to Action on American Energy”), Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) hailed Friday’s action, which was led by Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Tom Price (R-GA), and others, and encouraged House Republicans to return to the Capitol beginning Monday morning to help keep the historic effort going,” said a press release just released by Minority Leader Boehner’s office. “It’s not a request … Read entire article »

Vacation

You remember Nancy Pelosi? The one who PROMISED to fix the struggles of Americans at the gas pump? In a press release dated April 24, 2006, Pelosi said, “Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.” Not only has she not kept this promise, The House of Representatives has not taken a vote since January 2007 that would expand domestic energy production. Today the Democrat controlled Congress [which has a lower approval rating than Bush] adjourned for a five-week vacation without taking a vote on bipartisan measures that would lessen our dependence on foreign oil by … Read entire article »

Drill!

“You should be happy your gas is $4.00 a gallon, some of Europe pays twice that.” It is often said and yet there is an error in this logic. Much of Europe has an amazing connection of transport that makes cars unnecessary. Many can roam about comfortably and never own a car. In many cases, a car is pure luxury. This is not so where I live, and without the convenience of a metro or a bus route, I don’t have options other countries have. Yesterday, President Bush lifted an executive ban on offshore drilling. This doesn’t solve our problem however, as it is now put in the hands of our lazy, do nothing, democractic Congress. (Let’s not forget their leader Pelosi’s promise that the democrats had a plan to bring down … Read entire article »

Rising Gas Prices, Rising Blood Pressure

My mom went to her doctor the other day, and for the most part the doctor was pleased with her test results. He praised her for lowering her cholesteral, but had to mention, “Your blood pressure is a bit high.” She responded, “Well before I came here I had to buy gas today and drive to your office.” They shared a laugh, and he didn’t chastise her in understanding. Why am I harping on this subject of the price of gas? Because we all live it, and frankly it’s deeply affecting our lives. As you know, and I blogged about previously, this week, Republican senators blocked a Democrat-sponsored bill that would have imposed a “windfall profits” tax on the five major oil companies. According to Bill O’Reilly: The GOP says the bill would not have lowered gas … Read entire article »

It’s Our Oil and We’ll Pump if We Want To

It’s Our Oil and We’ll Pump if We Want To

This picture shows President Bush with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, asking for higher oil output, and the King refused. He is allowed to say no. It’s their oil, and they can pump it if they want to. I have no problem with that. This is just another in a list of mistakes Bush makes in my opinion. Bush should be on the television talking to the American people about this problem. If Bush wants … Read entire article »

17 Billion Dollars in Profits

I was behind a lady in a line of cars at BJ’s the other day, we were at the gas pump. I looked at her as she was filling her car, and if I wasn’t mistaken, she looked close to crying. Watching the numbers roll around and accumulate was obviously adding to her stress level. I didn’t even have to TRY to imagine what had her so upset. I wondered what she couldn’t buy, so she could fuel her car with gas. I tell this story as I read the headlines: BP PLC and Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Europe’s two biggest oil producers, posted forecast-busting first-quarter earnings on Tuesday thanks to record crude oil prices that are expected to bolster profits across the industry. Revenue at BP jumped 44 percent to $89.2 billion (57.1 … Read entire article »

Food or Fuel?

If you read the news headlines at all, between the economy, housing crisis, and food issues, it’s all starting to sound like the Black horse of the Apocalypse. Consumer Confidence Falls to a 26 year low Many States Appear to be in a Recession UN secretary-general calls food price rise global crisis… Oil Prices Jump Oil shortage in UK ahead of strike: ‘Stations running dry’… STUDY: Oil prices to double in next 4 years…   But it’s this headline that I thought was a no-brainer even when this started:  PAPER: Gore Ducks, as Backlash Builds Against Biofuels… When they started to grow corn for the sole purpose of fuel, and even though I am no rocket scientist, I saw that as trouble. Forgetting for a moment that not all environmentalists are even sure that growing corn for fuel doesn’t consume … Read entire article »

All Talk Pelosi

Apparently, “Nanny” Pelosi made a promise to reduce gas prices: In a press release dated April 24, 2006, Pelosi said, “Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices by cracking down on price gouging, rolling back the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies, and increasing production of alternative fuels.” I think it’s time that someone pointed out that the price of gasoline has spiked $1.18 since Democrats took over in January and stands at $3.51. Indeed someone has. House Republicans. House Republican leaders on Tuesday challenged Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to release a plan to lower gas prices that they say Democrats touted when they were in the minority. “Two years ago this week, you stated that House Democrats … Read entire article »

What Oil Buys

Having oil just seems to allow the world to look away and defend radicals to blow us up, each other up, and treat women (retarded and not retarded) like subhumans, that’s what I have concluded. Even though there is a promise of a 50 cent drop in price per gallon come this spring, no one should look away at such headlines.   In Today’s Times Online: A 37-year-old American businesswoman and married mother of three is seeking justice after she was thrown in jail by Saudi Arabia’s religious police for sitting with a male colleague at a Starbucks coffee shop in Riyadh. Yara, who does not want her last name published for fear of retribution, was bruised and crying when she was freed from a day in prison after she was strip-searched, threatened and forced to … Read entire article »

Water Power

“I believe that water will one day be employed as fuel, that hydrogen and oxygen which constitute it, used singly or together, will furnish an inexhaustible source of heat and light, of an intensity of which coal is not capable.” – Jules Verne, The Mysterious Island (1874) Damage to the U.S. oil infrastructure and skyrocketing fuel costs may have finally prompted more serious action to steer us away from dependency on oil and look another direction. That direction might be Aquygen™ , a combustible gas made from water that is a safe, cost-effective, and an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional industrial gases. A novel gas produced inexpensively from water.
