An Acmetal for Your Thoughts

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, receiving support from the Canadian economist Prof Mundell and Nobel-prize winner Professor Robert Mundell, is proposing a one world currency, the Acmetal. Mr Nazarbayev’s coining of “acmetal” combines the Greek word “acme,” meaning peak or best, and “capital.”   Mr Nazarbayev and Prof Mundell urged the Group of 20 leading developed and developing economies to form a working group on the proposal at their summit on the global economic crisis in London on April 2. “We should deliver our thoughts and the thoughts of this conference to the leaders of those countries,” Mr Nazarbayev said, referring to the G8 and G20 nations.   More from The Australian … Read entire article »

650 to 52

Scientific meetings are now being dominated by a growing number of skeptical scientists in regards to man made global warming. Over 650 dissenting scientists are more than 12 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers. What some are saying… “I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” – Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.    “Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical.” -  Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology  and formerly of NASA who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”   … Read entire article »

Food or Fuel?

If you read the news headlines at all, between the economy, housing crisis, and food issues, it’s all starting to sound like the Black horse of the Apocalypse. Consumer Confidence Falls to a 26 year low Many States Appear to be in a Recession UN secretary-general calls food price rise global crisis… Oil Prices Jump Oil shortage in UK ahead of strike: ‘Stations running dry’… STUDY: Oil prices to double in next 4 years…   But it’s this headline that I thought was a no-brainer even when this started:  PAPER: Gore Ducks, as Backlash Builds Against Biofuels… When they started to grow corn for the sole purpose of fuel, and even though I am no rocket scientist, I saw that as trouble. Forgetting for a moment that not all environmentalists are even sure that growing corn for fuel doesn’t consume … Read entire article »

Autumn Snow

Autumn Snow

The trees still have red leaves on them and the weather paid no mind to the calendar at all, and the snow fell. We were only supposed to get about 2 inches, but by night, I would say closer to 4 fell here in Pasadena.   Mom said that it was reported, statistically it often snows on December 5th, so I guess we don’t have to panic that our global warming is really global ice age. We spent … Read entire article »

More

In the book I am reading, and blogged about, Hurtling Toward Oblivion, there is a section where the writer answers the question, “If you could use only ONE WORD to describe all that is happening in the world, which word would you choose?” The writer’s answer. “More.” He goes on to say no matter where we look there is always more. More people, more cars, more roads, more televisions broadcasting more programs over more stations. More computers, more books, more magazines, processing and distributing more information. Some paragraphs later, he quotes a systems engineer, Roberto Vacca, “Everything grows: everything is on the increase, and ever year the speed of that increase is greater.” In 1800 there were one bilion people; in 1930, two billion; 1960, three billion; 1975, four billion; 1987, five billion; and … Read entire article »

Confusing Headlines

Confusing Headlines

I have to give Drudge Report credit, he reports both sides of the headlines, even if side by side they are very confusing. In that he does that, says to me, the real truth is not really known. Next to an adorable polar bear image is the headline: WARMING WARNING OF ‘UNRECOGNIZABLE’ EARTH   That’s very strong language, even to the inside of the article… “VALENCIA, Spain (AP) – The Earth is hurtling toward a warmer climate at a … Read entire article »

Weather Stations

In these confusing times on what some are calling global warming, there exists, I found out, concerns about the state of the climate measuring network. Apparently the data received is in question. Now since a day doesn’t go by that we don’t hear about how the earth is warming up, it would be a good idea to at least make sure the information they are feeding us is accurate. Even though doubts as to the purity of the data was suspect in 1997, now, ten years later, this has not been investigated nor acted on. Enter this site, SurfaceStations.org, volunteering time to take photographs, measuring, and taking of notes to see if this task could be done by individuals, when our bloated government couldn’t. Their goal? “To do a hands on site survey to photograph … Read entire article »

Snow and Record Breaking Cold

Snow and Record Breaking Cold

I have never hid, even since I started this blog, my confusion over the weather, climate and the global warming debate. It seems like for every scientific evidence one gives on a certain slant, others can chime in with evidence in the other direction. More confusing is weather headlines of late: THE icy weather of snow, hail and heavy rain that has swept across South Africa over the past few days has set 54 weather records. "The South … Read entire article »

Sun could be the cause of global warming

Sun could be the cause of global warming

Just when I am nearly convinced by the media and the pointing of fingers from other nations that the U.S. is totally to blame, yet another theory pops up as to why we have global warming. This article in Live Science states: “Increased output from the Sun might be to blame for 10 to 30 percent of global warming that has been measured in the past 20 years, according to a new report.” More on the article … Read entire article »

Barbra Streisand and Global Warming

Apparently this year’s back to back hurricanes is proof positive to Barbra Streisand that we have entered a new period of "global warming emergency." Or at least this is what she tells Diane Sawyer in a recent interview. Now I just don’t know how scientific that all sounds. So I decided to research a little to see if hurricane activity such as we have had this year and last, is something new. What I found out that hurricane activity such as this, is nothing new, and certainly way before the time of cars and automobiles and such. For example, the busiest Hurricane Season Ever for the U.S.: The 1886 hurricane season has been analyzed to be the busiest on record for the continental United States. Seven hurricanes were recorded to have hit … Read entire article »

global dimming

Ok. Granted, I can be easily confused. I have read time after time how we need to clean up the air. Yet now, I read Earth’s air is cleaner, but this may worsen the greenhouse effect. I am sure glad I don’t have my faith in scientist, none seem to ever agree. Read: Clear skies end global dimming … Read entire article »
