Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in a defense spending bill to pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops.
Among the 778 such projects, known as earmarks, packed into the bill: $25 million for a new World War II museum at the University of New Orleans and $20 million to launch an educational institute named after the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat.

John's last full day here in Maryland, and we decided to take a quick trip into Baltimore and visit the B&O Railroad Museum. It had been years since I had been there, and I sure hadn't seen it since the roof collapsed under the weight of a heavy snowstorm.
I had forgotten all there was to see in one place.
The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum possesses the oldest, most historic and most comprehensive American railroad collections in the world. Dating from ... Read More

This month, a place I have been waiting for has finally opened. It is 9 hours away from me, but I long to see it. It's called the Creation Museum.
One of the co-founders of the museum is Ken Ham, a charming and very funny Australian who I have enjoyed in book, in lectures, and the Answers in Genesis Website.
It might take a long while before I get the opportunity to see the museum, till then, I was glad to find ... Read More

While there, I found an amazing piece by Roxy Paine called New Fungus Crop. I could have looked at it for hours!
I am nuts about mushrooms...they seem to take you to ... Read More

Thanks to a certain Mr Jeff, I was persuaded to finally go into the big city of Washington D.C. and do it in a way that avoided the traffic and parking issues, and take the metro.
Getting to the New Carrollton Metro station was the first issue, as for some reason I had two sets of directions from google, and I had to pick one. Once there, I have to say, there was a lot of help in the purchase of ... Read More

If you don't know, I am fascinated by the first book of the Bible, Genesis.
What could be more fascinating than, "In the begining..." ?
It's a book I take literally, and I think I have passed on my same fascinations down to my children.
Tonight, on NBC news nightly, they are supposedly presenting the Answers In Genesis Creation Museum; doing a news story on it.
