National Day of Prayer

“Prayer is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen to God.” Diana Robinson “There is a vast difference between saying prayers and praying” “To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.” Martin Luther King, Jr. “Pray as though everything depended on God. Changes

Change is a part of life…. The man who looks for security, even in the mind, is like a man who would chop off his limbs in order to have artificial ones which will give him no pain or trouble.  ~Henry Miller Change is inevitable – except from a vending machine.  ~Robert C. Gallagher If you’re in a bad situation, don’t worry it’ll change.  If you’re in a good situation, don’t worry it’ll change.  ~John A. Simone, Sr. There is a certain relief in change, even though it be from bad to worse!  As I have often found in travelling in a stagecoach, that it is often a comfort to shift one’s position, and be bruised in a new place.  ~Washington Irving He who rejects change is the architect of decay.  The only human … Read entire article »

Priorities

“Action expresses priorities.” Mahatma Gandhi “Success is only another form of failure if we forget what our priorities should be.” Harry Lloyd “The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” Stephen R. Covey “Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Establish your priorities and go to work.” H. L. Hunt “We realize our dilemma goes deeper than shortage of time; it is basically a problem of priorities. We confess, We have left undone those things that ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.” Charles E. Hummel “Set priorities for your goals. A major part of successful living lies in the ability to put first things first. Indeed, the reason most major goals are not achieved is that … Read entire article »

Commitment

“We promise according to our hopes and perform according to our fears.” François de la Rochefoucauld “Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” Mario Andretti “There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstance permit. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.” “Commitment in the face of conflict produces character.” “Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans.” Peter F. Drucker “When work, commitment, and pleasure all become one and you reach that deep well where passion lives, nothing is impossible.” “The relationship between commitment and doubt is by no means an … Read entire article »

Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

Since October, I have said many goodbyes to dear loved ones. The reunions and meetings were heaven, the good-byes, honestly, difficult, each and every one. I find them unbearable as I just seem to thrive having all my loved ones with me. Today, Petra and Leoni left to go home after an extended holiday visit. I decided to look up some quotations on Good-byes….  ”Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” ~Dr. Seuss “May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.”  ~Irish Blessing “Why can’t we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then … Read entire article »

Missed Shots

Missed Shots

In my rounds of Christmas shopping, I saw in the frame and art department this quote from Wayne Gretzky: “You miss 100% of the shots you never take.” It really spoke to me. To me it said, if you’re not trying or doing it, you’re missing out.  Some more quotes by Wayne Gretzky: “A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.”           “Procrastination is one of the most … Read entire article »

Samuel Adams

My son is nearly finished his civics lessons for the year. Nearing the end of the book, there is attention paid to certain patriots in our history. One of the first mentioned, is Samuel Adams. In his book, it says of Adams, "He stands as a prime example of how strong, Christian character can have an impact upon a nation….the austere purity of his life witnessed the sincerity of his profession. Evening and morning his house was a house of prayer…" I was impressed by this quote of Adams and immediately set out to learn more about him. Here are some quotations of Samuel Adams: "It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds." “Mankind are governed more by their feelings … Read entire article »

Twelfth Night

Twelfth Night

Last night I had the pleasure of taking my daughter, her friend Erin, as well as having the company of my son and his friends Mike and Ross to see a play. The play we went to see was Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” The main reason we went was to see Crazy Andrew’s performance as Sebastian. The performance was held at Anne Arundel Community College. It was kind of interesting to go to back to where I once attended school. Everything … Read entire article »

Fear (part 2)

“The Lord is my light, and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” -Bible, Psalm 27: 1 “Fear is that little darkroom where negatives are developed.” -Michael Pritchard “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.” -Ambrose Redmoon “To fear love is to fear life, and those who fear life are already three parts dead.” -Bertrand Russell “While we are focusing on fear, worry, or hate, it is not possible for us to be experiencing happiness, enthusiasm or love.” -Bo Bennett, “Year to Success” “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.” -Joseph Chilton Pearce “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. … Read entire article »

President’s Day

I don’t recall ever having a holiday for President’s Day when growing up… Oh well, they sure do now.
