Bailouts Predicted by the New York Times in 1999
Jimmy Carter signed the Community Reinvestment Act in 1977. This required financial institutions to make loans to lower-income individuals in the communities they served. Non-compliance with this Act would prevent a bank or savings and loan from being able to expand within the states it was currently in and beyond. It’s interesting to note when the current housing and financial crisis, the above statement is often ignored. Even the New York Times in 1999 predicted a possible bailout, here is an excerpt from that paper: In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders. The action, which will begin … Read entire article »

Higher Gas Prices, Again.
I have always been on the side that government should stay out of business. They can’t run themselves, why on earth would we trust them to run a business. Obama buys up the car industry, and according to Ralph Nader, not necessary: The proximate cause of the bankruptcy was supposed to be the inability of GM and the government’s auto task force to reach an accommodation with GM’s bondholders. But late last week, the bondholder problem was moving toward rapid resolution, and was clearly resolvable. Why then are GM and its multibillion government financier proceeding with bankruptcy? The bankruptcy and the GM restructuring plan are the product of a secretive, unaccountable, Wall Street-minded government task force that assumed power because of a Congressional abdication of historic magnitude. By all rights, the restructuring plan … Read entire article »

Obama vs. Clinton
I sure had to, for once, appreciate Hillary’s break from “misstatements” when she reacted to Obama’s latest blunder. He spoke recently to a people in Pennsylvania, whose unemployment rate is around what the national average is (4.9%) and tried to tell them how unhappy they are: Obama touched off the controversy with his remarks at a closed San Francisco fundraiser earlier in the week. The remarks became public on Friday. “You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them,” Obama said. “And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as … Read entire article »

Outsiders View
Having friends all around the world, it’s often interesting to hear how they view things about what goes on here. Namely, the topic of some discussion has been our elections. I had to chuckle when Petra (from Holland) sat down at the dinner table recently and stated, “If Hillary or Obama wins to be president, this country is in deep trouble.” Well she got a lot of nods of agreement. But we all agreed, Petra included, that the funniest statement … Read entire article »
Hillary Health Care?
In a recent headline at Drudge Cash-strapped Clinton fails to pay bills, I may have raised an eyebrow or two, and I even scanned the article quickly, but nothing surprising really struck me. Just like with other businesses, it’s common for campaigns to carry unpaid bills from month to month, but in Clinton’s case, it also could serve a strategic purpose. The New York senator’s presidential campaign ended February with $33 million in the bank, according to a report filed last week with the Federal Election Commission, but only $11 million of that can be spent on her battle with Obama. The rest can be spent only in the general election, if she makes it that far, and must be returned if she doesn’t. If she had paid off the $8.7 million in … Read entire article »

Lies
“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it” ~Adolf Hitler I am not a Hillary Clinton supporter, I have never liked her ever since her “staying home baking cookies” remark, and gee, it went downhill from there. She has a record, along with Bill, of seeing things in this deceptive bubble they have created for themselves. It came as no surpise that on FOXNews today she was shown recalling a time she was off to Bosnia and was met with gunfire, where she had to run for her life. I remember hearing this before, and everyone putting it down to her invention. Seems she is continuing with the same lie. During a speech last Monday on Iraq, she said of the Bosnia trip: “I remember landing … Read entire article »

Chase It Down
It seems Hillary Clinton’s campaign is short of money, and while it seems to me that they could tighten up with the $6,000 a night at the Bellagio and the tremendous steak and lobster dinners, she was found out to have taken 5 million of her own money and put it to her campaign. Which had people asking, “Where did that money come from?” The Clintons have made some disclosures, which reveal only broad ranges of assets, place her and former President Clinton’s wealth between $10 million to $50 million. I really like how Obama handled the issue: Asked whether he would call on the Clintons to release their tax returns, Obama stopped short of saying they should. “I’ll just say that I’ve released my tax returns. That’s been a policy I’ve maintained consistently. I … Read entire article »

Caught Snoozing
At first I didn’t want to believe it. Surely Bill Clinton didn’t fall asleep during a Martin Luther King Speech! Surely the photo lies, and depicts a moment only where he closed his eyes. However, I watched the video, and sure enough, he does nod off, he does anxiously look at his watch, he is just downright rude. As the article suggests, it gives MLK’s “I’ve Got a Dream” a whole new meaning. Article HERE … Read entire article »

N9NE Steakhouse Comparisons
I never thought about what the democratic presidential contenders must eat while compaigning, but a recent article gave a comparison between the Obama and Clinton camps at the recent outings at N9NE Steakhouse. Made me wonder, who pays for this? Is it paid for with contributions? Obama’s Ordered $200 worth of food, including two Kobe burgers, two organic chicken sandwiches and one order of Dover sole The Clintons’ tab came to $1,530 and included entrees of nine steaks, three chicken, three salmon and three Maine scallops, two lobster … Read entire article »

Stonewall Hillary
"…but [let] your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment." – James 5:12 The political news story of late is how much Hillary flip-flops on her position on the issues. This is no surprise to me, in fact, it is hardly a news story at all as far as I am concerned. Bill and Hillary have been pandering to every crowd, changing their stories from … Read entire article »

Not Front Page News…
…or at least not in our liberal newspapers: Jeanine Pirro Blasts Hillary’s Party for Ex-Klansman “New York Senate hopeful Jeanine Pirro is blasting 2008 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton for throwing a birthday party tonight for Klu Klux Klansman-turned-Senator Robert Byrd at the home of a civil rights pioneer. “It’s outrageous and shocking that Senator Clinton and her Democrat colleagues would choose Frederick Douglass‘ house to honor Senator Robert Byrd, who has a history of involvement with hate groups and has used racial slurs publicly,” Pirro spokeswoman Andrea Tantaros told the Associated Press. Byrd joined the Klan in 1943 and rose the level of Kleagle before being unanimously elected to the office of Grand Cyclops. He claims to have resigned a few months later. But in 1946 Byrd wrote the Klan’s Grand Imperial Wizard … Read entire article »
