This Is My Beloved Husband – John Gets Baptized

The Bible was written by fallible men.

I believe in the science of evolution.

I bet people in your church couldn’t name one native plant of Maryland.

John Dolphin, 1999

These were some things John would often say when we first met and he found out I was a Christian. Needless to say, in the beginning, he was often critical of everything I believed in. I wasn’t phased, however, prayers began for him to see the truth. Based on other topics of our conversations, I could see that he was a man who more or less liked the truth. He was also consistent in his beliefs. It was refreshing to meet someone who wanted to save the whales and at the same time didn’t want to abort babies.

Fast Forward to 2022. Many prayers were said, over all those years, by me, my family, and my friends, John made a decision to follow Jesus. It was quite an eventful day at the house, and in spite of all the drama going on that day, everyone was thrilled for John.

Now, back in Australia, I got to see my husband get baptized.

When he accepted Jesus, he followed that with a heart attack, so naturally I teased him a lot about what happens after a baptism.

The church had so many people to be baptized that they decided to do it in the Sunday School hour. It actually took longer than an hour.
A closer look. Each waiting to give their personal testimony.
But first, for the visitors, an explanation what Baptism is, and what it isn’t.
John gives his personal testimony. Truly was a wonderful idea to let everyone tell their story. There were some unique situations that some had to share.
And finally, John is baptized. Pastor Jim Moore from Gospel Baptist Church had the honors. These two have become good friends.
After church, we had a potluck dinner, and John displayed his baptism certificate. He was smiling the day he got saved, even after having a heart attack at the hospital, and he is smiling after his baptism.
What an answer to prayer.

The body of Christ is a body at prayer.
