Cabin Fever

Cabin Fever

After days and days of  so many feet of snow outside, and little melting, you have to just get out anyway. Saturday was one of those days, and we decided to take Silas to the park. There had been a few warmish days, however it was a tad disheartening to see the park benches nearly still covered in snow. Silas wanted to go on the slide, but there was a mini lake under it! Silas braves the slide anyway! Silas … Read entire article »

Authentic Love

Authentic Love

This Valentines Day, this very proud mama got to hear her son preach tonight. Being Valentines Day, Enric chose Authentic Love as his topic for teaching. Enric teaches how our culture gives a view of love that is different from the Bible. He also gives a very personal and heartwarming testimony of many touching ways that authentic love has been shown to him and his family. We needed tissues at the end! Listen to “Authentic Love” » HERE … Read entire article »

Baltimore Auto Show 2010

Baltimore Auto Show 2010

A few times in the past I have given to Miquel as his Valentine’s present,  a visit to the car show in Baltimore’s Convention Center. In the years past, it has been overwhelmingly amazing and it was almost too much show to see in one visit. This year, I was excited to have more Valentines to take, and we set out yesterday to the Maryland Auto Show. There were some noticeable changes at the start. Not … Read entire article »

Christmas Eve 2009 Highlights

Christmas Eve 2009 Highlights

This Christmas Eve was special with Enric, Miranda, and Silas here with us. Jenny, back from school, was here too! The evening was sweet starting with our Christmas Eve service at church, and my guess is, that is when the hilarity got its start. Silas didn’t go into the nursery as keeping children with parents in the service is encouraged. He was so funny singing along, imitating the violins, and speaking out loud. Once home, the evening … Read entire article »

Blizzard 2009

Blizzard 2009

I don’t think that our weatherman could have predicted this. They started off saying a chance of snow with some accumulation. Then they began talking inches, and pretty soon, some time later, they were talking FEET! Today, it was a BLIZZARD! Enric decided fairly early to get started on cleaning the driveway and cleaning off the cars. Silas watched his daddy with excited interest. Enric starts cleaning off Yaya’s car. Silas became increasingly excited about to go out in the … Read entire article »

Distraction

Silas showed us how short a child’s attention span can be today. He saw his daddy pull into the driveway, got all excited about greeting him, nearly hurt himself in his anxiousness to meet him at the doorway, goes running to greet him, Enric puts his bottled water down on the table to hug Silas, and that was all that was needed to distract Silas in a big way. “OH” he says. We sure did laugh a long time! … Read entire article »

My Little Girl is 16

It’s hard to believe that 16 years ago today I waddled into the hospital, with the entire staff looking at my stomach and accusing me of  eating the whole Thanksgiving turkey. Eight hours later, Laura was born. She was perfect. Smiling. The most beautiful little girl. She was a perfect 10. Her brother held her and she looked deep into Enric’s eyes as if he was her hero. Happy birthday, my princess. … Read entire article »

The Maze Game

The Maze Game

Many years ago, a game arrived from Spain called Laberinto 2. Enric took to the game immediately and poured many hours into it, trying to win this challenging game. It ’s made from plastic and had two knobs which is used to move a tiny ball around a maze, avoiding the many holes in the board and to get all the way around to the end. It was fun for me to see Enric with the game … Read entire article »

Character

It’s funny what you learn about your own children on Facebook. Enric, who recently got a FB account, I noticed on his list of quotes: “The test of your character is what it takes to stop you.” Very thoughtful quote Enric! Must be my day to see character quotes, as later on I found this one: “The purpose of Christianity is not to avoid difficulty, but to produce a character adequate to meet it when it comes. It does not make life easy; rather it tries to make us great enough for life.” ~ James L. Christensen ~ … Read entire article »

Cool With Uncle Meek

Cool With Uncle Meek

While Enric, Miranda, and Silas were here, Miquel had to work odd hours and go to school. Miquel didn’t get to see them all he wanted. Miquel loves children and they seem to love him. So how much more is how he loves Silas. But gee, this is what happens to Silas, when his Uncle Meek gets some time with him! Silas with Miquel’s hat and bike gloves. A Day in Avalon

A Day in Avalon

Avalon Area of Patapsco State Park that is. Enric, Miranda, and Silas are still in town. Enric and Miquel decided to go mountain biking and Miranda and Laura went hiking. I got to spend some time with Silas. Silas climbed mountains at the playground there. Here, I show off my great grandparenting skills as I take photos of Silas falling off a swing. Still more summer fun with Enric, Miranda, and Silas! Yaya took Silas for a spin around the yard in a wagon. Enric and Miranda enjoyed the pool. (Too cold for Silas). Not Enough Faith

to be an Atheist? In yet ANOTHER early birthday present, Enric and Miranda gave me a book by Norman L. Geisler and Frank Turek, “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist” Great Title! Excerpt of the Preface: “Should you disbelieve what an atheist writes about Christianity just because he’s an athiest? Not necessarily, because he could be telling the truth. Should you disblieve what a Christian writes about atheism just because he’s a Christian? Again, not necesarily-he too could be telling the truth. But what about the an author’s agenda? Does an agenda fatally taint his objectivity? If so, no book is objective, including those by atheists and skeptics. Why? Because ALL books are written for a reason, all authors have an agenda , and all (or at least most) authors believe what … Read entire article »

John and I, no strangers to online webcam conversations, had a chance to talk to Enric, Miranda, and Silas! Enric was playing Classical Gas for me, or trying to, as Silas decided to help. Mother and Son at the Piano

Mother and Son at the Piano

Sometimes, it’s hard to see a future. So, I go looking into the past at times. Photos from years ago can be comforting… These days, Enric can sit down at the piano and make amazing music. I looked at this photograph (likely taken by Petra’s Dad, Piet Pulles, as he was here at the house that day), and thought, “I hope I had some little spark in helping Enric enjoy the piano as he does today.” The likely photographer with Enric … Read entire article »

Christmas Presents 2008: Birch Framed

It’s not even Christmas yet, and alread I am feeling the blessings of the season through gifts, and as usual I like to share with them to my blog readers. Terragen and Tim Janis

Terragen and Tim Janis

Some nice lady once told me, as she was looking over my Terragen Art, “You know, your terragen landscapes compiled with Tim Janis music would be a very pleasing thing.” “Tim who?” I asked. Mini Concert

Well into Enric and Miranda’s stay here, we decided on an informal get together with my sister and her husband, as well as Mrs. Moore. With this time together, I thought it would be nice for Enric to play piano, a mini concert of sorts, so Miquel could tape it for us to listen to again and again. We had a little light food, some cookies, nuts, Flavio’s cheese and crackers. And then, we were treated very nicely… …as Miranda, baby … Read entire article »
