In a Philly Mood

Never having been to Philadelphia, and John who likes to visit zoos, we combined an outing and went to the Philadelphia Zoo and then decided to see the Liberty Bell in historic Philadelphia.

Entrance to the zoo

What I did not know was that Philadelphia was home to the FIRST zoo in our country.

The first zoo

Overall, having just been to the National Zoo the day before, we were impressed still on Philadelphia’s way of putting a zoo together.
The reptile and amphibian house was impressive…

The Nile Crocodile

Among the cats was the Amur Leopard

Acting like our cats at home rolling on the ground.

Leaving the zoo we could see how Philly decorates under bridges, announcing the zoo in a unique way.

John photographing the walls and columns that led to the zoo from our parking spot.

Decorated wall under a bridge

I wish I could say I was just as impressed by downtown historic Philadelphia. The bell is NOT in Independence Hall, but an ugly glass enclosure. Independence all was covered in scaffolding, and overall, I just thought it lacked atmosphere on the day we were there.

Philly Cheesesteaks was also a thing for our day there.

So, to help soak up the atmosphere, Laura wanted to try a REAL Philly Cheesesteak and from none other place than GENOS, which she saw on TV comparing two well-known establishments for Philly Cheesesteaks that are side by side in South Philly.

Laura’s choice? Geno’s.
