A Fine Welcome Home

I am back in Perth, Australia, and I must say it was a smooth journey, in spite of the time and distance. Two days, three planes, four airports, and one missing Friday later, it’s good to be on the ground, and likely will soon be better if ever I fully wake up.

This time I went a different route with Qantas. I did Baltimore – Dallas – Brisbane – Perth. This is the only photo I took of my plane at Dallas. For once, there were no long layovers at any airports, just time to get around, find my gate, find bathrooms, update loved ones, and get on the next plane.

John picked up a tired but happy wife in Perth Airport, took me straight home, where I was met by a surprise vase of roses. This truly shows the love he has for his wife, as my husband HATES roses.

Why would anyone dislike roses you ask? The short answers is, they are not native.

The long answer is, he lives in a region where…

For six picturesque months, a whopping 12,000 plant species carpet the state with their vivid beauty – and endless varieties are still being discovered! And over 60% of these species are found nowhere else in the world.

They are some of the most peculiar, lovely, unique flowers you could ever see. They grow in spite of no rain, no fertilizers, or having been through a bush fire or two. So from John’s point of view, why pollute and waste water growing flowers that were never there in the first place when you have thousands to admire growing naturally?

And these wildflowers is one of the reasons I chose to come back to Perth this time of year. Our plan is to take many day trips to find and photograph these gems.

But besides the roses, I got a foot rub, and my back washed while in the tub. Mmmmm nice treatment to come home to.
My first full day in Australia, we decided to go to Fremantle as John’s brother, Andy, or Andrew as I like to call him,  had paintings exhibited in an art show there.

In East Fremantle, right in front of the East Fremantle Lawn Tennis Club, Petra Street. We just had to make a quick stop.

I just had to take a photo or two of the combination tennis club and Marshalls Tennis Academy, that had such a lovely view of the river to show Miquel.

Tennis with a view…and Miquel if you’re reading this, I couldn’t help but notice two young ladies playing who were in dire need of your teaching services.

A raven/ crow, flew down and landed in front of me, I’d say I’ve had the full welcome now. Nothing says welcome back like this bird. 🙂
