Air and Space Museum Dulles

I’ve been to the Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. more times than I could ever count, and always love going to it. I didn’t know that there was an extension to it in Dulles till John mentioned he’d like to go there. On top of that, my uncle, who was here over Christmas, highly recommended to see it. As it worked out, John’s return trip to Perth left from Dulles, so it was decided to combine taking him to the airport with seeing the Air and Space Museum in Dulles.

Enric drove and Silas went with us, helping to make this sad day of good-byes a little easier.

As you can see the sky reflected a bit of gloom that I was feeling to say good-bye. John captured the building with his fisheye lens.

Enric was immediately impressed they had a Blackbird

I was surprised to see how many German planes they had, like this Messerschmitt ME 163 B-1a Komet

This had always been on my bucket list, but now the Concorde is no more. A shame.

Enola Gay

Perhaps one of the most sobering and awesome parts of the museum was seeing a piece of history like this the Enola Gay.

Then it was time to take John to the Airport. Going up and down the escalator became the ultimate thing to do for Silas.

It didn’t seem to take long to get John checked in and it was time to say good-bye.

John is safe at home now and I am always happy to report we survived the D.C. beltway home too.

🙂
