Driving to Mt. Barker

or, it’s my honeymoon, I’ll scream if I want to.

🙂

I was excited to this next part of our trip, as I hadn’t been to Mt. Barker before.

But first we had to get there.

We rode by this same area the last time, but this time it wasn't as green and lush as when we came in springtime.

Summer's end shows a very dry land this time around.

Hay stacks, just what you'd expect in farmland summers end.

I really liked Nannup last time, so we made sure to stop in this time. Kathy told me she liked the lemon butter there, so we looked for some, but didn't find any. Not in season. But we were told it was very easy to make.

We found a cafe which claimed to have the "best coffee in town" so I of course ventured in.

Delicious desserts were showcased.

An old stove caught my attention.

Apparently in Australia, you can't just order a coffee with cream. They give you a blind stare back. They don't know what you mean.

Ordering food hasn't been easy for me. I really don't know what anything is.

John had no trouble selecting a mud cake, which was delicious, and there is my cup of dynamite. (I haven't had a 'normal' cup of coffee yet.)

Even though the coffee was strong, the cafe was beautiful.

Jenny complained I wasn't in enough photos so John and I tried a pose at the cafe.

Got Logs? Everytime I see a double truck, I think of Enric. I had to take a photo.

So last time we stopped at a place in the woods called "the Four Aces", John asked me if I wanted to see the same place in summer. We got out to explore and almost immediately I felt something bite me HARD and I looked down to my leg only to see two very large insects on my legs. I screamed. LOUD. John laughed to tell me they were only "March flies', and that they can't hear me screaming. Not amused, I said, "It's my honeymoon, and I'll scream if I want to."

Leaving the area I had been to before, we drove into unknown area to me. We stopped at Lake Muir. So, so far my experience with Australia's lakes are: they are either PINK or DRY. 🙂

John got a photo of us in front of Lake Muir, which was dry.
