Mom’s First Birthday in Heaven

I woke up to a rather grey and dismal morning to find out that there were snow flurries about the state of Maryland, an earthquake in Nepal, causing an avalanche on Mount Everest.

Just in Weather

Mom, hands on hips, pouting to be on her Mama's lap, and not Uncle Arthur.

Mom, hands on hips, pouting to be on her Mama’s lap, and not Uncle Arthur.

It reminded me, this day of Mom’s birthday, that she told me more than once that when she was born they had snow in her birth town of Winchester, Virginia. Snow in April wasn’t typical. Neither was she.

My mind has drifted all morning, trying to imagine Mom’s first birthday in heaven. No matter if they need calendars in heaven or not, some believe they are aware what happens down here. Is mom having fun with her brothers and HER mother? What are they doing?

I of course miss my mother extra today.

The pangs of grief on missing her on her birthday first came in the mail. She was sent a birthday card….

But this was the part that hurt…

Did you know

Since the day you were born… your heart has beat 3.13 billion times….you have blinked 527.4 million times….you have slept 238.0 thousand hours…you have been alive 44.7 million minutes….you  have taken 670.1 million breaths…and you have consumed 1,870 gallons of milk.

I was able to console myself, even if her heart didn’t get to beat all the times it said, she loved us all with her all heart. Her eyes might not have blinked all the times it said, she used her eyes to be a watchful, loving mother, I KNOW she didn’t get to sleep all those hours, many were spent in prayer vigils for all of her family. Her alive and breathing minutes, she lived with all her being. She might not had all the gallons of milk, but til the bitter end, she made sure we had plenty.

One more time…
