Parks and Mints

(For Silas and Rubí)

For ages now, I have spoiled my two grandchildren with mints. Even my last trip back from Australia, I was sure to bring back lots of mints as well as left a pile of mints on my desk for them. On the occasion when I got back, I  emphasized to them how Australia had lovely parks and plenty of mints to eat. (Naturally, I’d love to share the wonders of Australia with them and do my best to entice them over one day). Rubí excused herself from my lap and went straight to tell her mama, “Mommy, we have to go to Australia, they have PARKS and MINTS!”

John and I had had a very busy and packed day, but as the day was coming to an end he suggested we go to Kings Park and see a place where he played at when he was young.

So even though I was tired from our day whale watching and going to the Model Expo, I became energized at the idea to take photos of the playground he spoke of to show Silas and Rubí.

John told me how much this playground had changed and it reminded me of our beloved Lake Waterford playground and how much it had changed. So I could sympathize with him.

At first glance, and never having seen it before, it looked like a very nice place for Silas and Rubí.

John motioned to the left, to the hollow log and said that was what the park USED to be like, all natural elements to play in.

Me posing for John in front of the log.

I decided this was the perfect place for us to do our traditional you take a photo of me…

…while I take of photo of you picture!

Moving oin…I could just imagine them tiring themselves out running up and down, to and fro.

…weaving in and out of the wooden pathway.

…finding places to climb…

…and places to slide, a favorite of Rubí’s!

You can even meet a dinosaur.

Or even a baby dinosaur!

Nana getting friendly with the dinosaur.

Nana LOVES the dinosaur!

There is even a bridge to cross to get to even more playground area.

Even some tranquil spots.
