Alejandra Arrives

Alejandra Arrives We have an addition to the family, at least for the next few weeks. Alejandra arrived Thursday afternoon. She was ready for bed early, but she tried to stay awake at least till 9 o'clock. She just couldn't do it. After a day of travel, she went to bed at 8:30 PM. Friday, I thought a relaxed day was best. It didn't take Alejandra a long time to soon learn that Maryland is a state of extremes. When we left the ... Read More

Aftermath

Aftermath "What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee" (Psalm 56:3). The Bible verses you learn as a child, really come back to you as an adult at the most appropriate times.   Yesterday, an explosive storm hit Pasadena area. I will admit, I was afraid. We are thankful that we are ok, the house is still standing, but our yard took quite a hit. I did trust in the Lord during all of it, but was most happy when everyone was ... Read More

Keeping Up with Van Jones

Posted By Xerraire On Tuesday, September 8th 2009 In News Items | Tags: ACORN, apartheid, attacks, civil rights, regime, storm, van jones |
Keeping Up with Van Jones I was interested to read Harry R. Jacksons, Jr.'s take on the Van Jones resignation: Now that he is gone, the average person may think that the controversy should be over. Not so. The ideological bias he brought to his job - not simply Jones’ past problems - are a part of my ongoing concerns. His official title was Special Adviser for Green Jobs at the Council on Environmental Quality. Jones’ unofficial, personal mission seemed to be to recast the “extreme ... Read More

Storms and a Hurricane

Posted By Xerraire On Saturday, August 22nd 2009 In Personal | Tags: beach, bill, hurricane, maryland, ocean city, storm, waves |
Storms and a Hurricane In spite of the storms that have hit Maryland and a hurricane off the coast, we have had great weather so far. Today it became obvious that the two fronts, the storms and the hurricane, are soon to descend on us. The sky looking to the east. Storm clouds to the west. The sea was a fury and most stood along the beach watching. Others played around with the new formations that the waves were making in the beach. Around us we were unsure about ... Read More

Hanna

Hanna “Storms make trees take deeper roots.” Dolly Parton   Tropical Storm Hanna seems to be making itself felt here in Maryland. By the radar with the eye south of here and coming this way, there is more to ride out. By looking out my window, I think we'll have a mess tomorrow. :) ... Read More

Radiation Storm

Posted By Xerraire On Thursday, December 7th 2006 In General | Tags: auroras, CME, flare, radiation, spaceweather, storm |
Radiation Storm According to Spaceweather.com , a radiation storm is underway. I just love when occurences match what we are learning in school - both Laura and Miquel have recently completed chapters on the sun and the atmosphere. Sky watchers should remain alert for auroras, which could flare up if and when a CME arrives. My friends and family in Wisconsin, take note! :) By the way, did you know there is a website that will alert you if there are auroras going ... Read More

Why are frogs so noisy?

Posted By Xerraire On Thursday, June 9th 2005 In Personal | Tags: croak, frogs, noise, photo, pool, storm |
Why are frogs so noisy? The other night, we had a violent storm roar in, bringing with it pounding rains, loud, earth shaking clapping thunder, and constant flashes of lightning....and something else...something noisy coming from the pool area. Laura was the first to notice it. She tried to get my attention. I wasn't very quick to respond. The storm had been conjured up from the hot and humid conditions of the day, and it had taken all my energy. I wasn't ready for a romp in ... Read More
