Alejandra Arrives

We have an addition to the family, at least for the next few weeks. Alejandra arrived Thursday afternoon. She was ready for bed early, but she tried to stay awake at least till 9 o’clock. She just couldn’t do it. After a day of travel, she went to bed at 8:30 PM.

Friday, I thought a relaxed day was best. It didn’t take Alejandra a long time to soon learn that Maryland is a state of extremes. When we left the air conditioned house to go to Radio Shack so she could buy an adapter for her laptop, she felt the intense heat. As we went by the bank, the temperature there registered at 109°F. (We quickly got out my cell phone for the unit converter, 42.7 c.).  Then after we parked the car, Alejandra was surprised to see that her shoes had sunk and squished into the melted asphalt! Her eyes were showing amazement, exclaiming that in Spain they have a saying about the heat and asphalt, but she never thought it was possible!

Later that night, and Alejandra slept through most of it, Maryland wanted to show off its extremes again, and have a horrible “Super derecho” storm!

She awoke to a world of debris, leaves down, some trees uprooted, and although we had power, many thousands didn’t.

She got to survey a lot of the damage in a bike ride with Enric, Miranda, and family.

Later, it was tennis time with Miquel! First they went to the gym and after that some tennis with a mini lesson tucked in.

Alex, warming up.

I love how she's all smiles while she plays!

Good, early preparation.

They had a few good rallies.

Another backhand.

Listening to Some advice from Miquel.

A drill for trying something new for balls that are low and in front of you.

Today was hot, but not as hot as yesterday. Just the same, a dip in the pool was next, some pizza, and off to Miquel and Jenny’s to play ping-pong and watch movies!

Tomorrow on the agenda is church and watch Spain vs. Italy!
