The Old Convent in Dalwallinu

For some reason, as we were planning our trip around Wildflower Country, an Old Convent caught my eye as the place to stay.

I thought as a service to anyone else considering staying there I would give my review and thoughts on the place.

First, perhaps get a few negatives out of the way.  One of the attractions was it promised WiFi in each room. (see left). Since I knew there would be lots to blog about, I prefer places that keep us connected. Needless to say, there was no WiFi Access in our room, nor I think in any other room. To their credit when I did email about this, they did say some rooms might be too far from the router. Well, they put us in the next to the most farthest room from the router, but even so, I don’t think any other room got WiFi either.  My guess is one day they might install it in each room, but that promised service is definitely not there now.

Notice they don’t mention bathrooms in each room either. Well they didn’t advertise falsely here, the bath room was shared with others. I think this is something they might want to mention as men walking around in nothing more than smiles and towels is something I’d like to be warned about. (there seemed to be a lot of workers staying there) Just saying. a warning might be nice.

This is what you see of the Old Convent from the road.

Perhaps this is the one standing item that gives a hint that this was at one time a convent.

The rooms were clean, bright, and tasteful. I think if I were doing the decorating I might have put the beds on the opposite wall, the windows were very drafty and this was winter. They did supply body wash, lotion (I now know I love Lily Pily). shampoo and conditioner.

Who doesn’t love towels all folded up into a swan or a flower?

The side door from where we could unload the car.

The bath. Cold as heck. Note to self, next place we stay make sure there is a bath to each room where the HEATER is. The window without a curtain was a bit of a worry to me. (UPDATE: I have been told that there is now a covering on the window)

Outside there was a very old water tank.

At first look, the dining area is very inviting.

Now the food was excellent. This evening’s meal was Moroccan styled Lamb, mixed vegetables, and mashed potatoes. I got to speak to the cook and learned how to make it all. I want to make this for my family back in the U.S.

A little fountain in the dining room. Cute….perhaps a tad annoying. That constant loud drip wasn’t very calming with the acoustics of the room, and didn’t let you hear the radio, discreetly hid behind the statue.

A large function room was promised as one of their facilities and I was told we could get the internet here by a nice fire. No fire. But perhaps we were a little late. We did stay out to watch the sun go down.

The hallway from the function room back to the dining area.

So in all, I guess I’d have to give it a 2 out of 5 stars; for the cleanliness, friendliness, and  for the delicious food.
If you don’t want to be connected, if you don’t mind the cold, and sharing the bath with the other guests, you might rate it higher. 🙂
