You left your soap dish!

With the rain pouring, the winds howling, forcing small limbs to fall to the ground and all around, my son packed all his worldly goods in a what seemed like just a few boxes and left home this morning to start his new life near a thousand miles away.
While it makes me sad to see him go, I am also very happy for him too. In the eyes of the world, his future looks quite uncertain, to those with more vision and faith, it looks extremely bright. He is happy, he will marry Miranda in almost a month, and together they be more than OK.

As I walked through what seemed like a very empty house, I couldn’t help and reflect the prayer I wrote in his baby book 23 years ago…

Help me dear Lord, as a mother I pray,
And bless these hands folded in prayer today:
May they be ever strong as they guide, as they teach,
Being never to far for a child to reach.
May they never, with selfishness, try to dissuade,
Nor too quickly punish, nor too slowly aid.
May they point out the pleasures in laughter and song,
And may they show wisely the right from the wrong.
So that one day I’ll know that I’ve helped all I can,
To make my sweet Enric Ramon a man…”

I am so proud of you, son, and so thankful. As, now reading this, my prayer then, was completely and fully answered.

Enric with Mama only a few days old

I sipped my coffee in the quiet house, looking at the empty spaces where his things were. As I went into the bathroom to wash my face, I noticed, his soapdish, bought for college life…

I don’t suppose he’d come back to pick it up….?

It’s hard to let go when they get that far. Luckily it will be many years before I have to deal with that one. As for the soapdish, don’t worry. A request for it is likely to be sent with the first request for money (which is usually in about 2 weeks (just kidding, I’ll bet he will do wonderfully, he seems to have been taught by one of the best).
