Family Vacation: Farmhouse Stay

When you need a place to stay for 10 people, what could be better than a farmhouse close to gorges, waterfalls, and cute towns?

Enric and Laura found a charming and cozy 1860’s farmhouse in Spencer, New York, which we quickly found out on our arrival, the photos on the internet didn’t do it justice, but I will have a try here…

stone farm house
A very welcoming beginning…
Barn for a view
This was our view from the house, as well as fruit trees, and a lovely weeping willow tree, one of my favorites!
black eyed susans, farmhouse
The house was adorned with lovely flowers too!
entrance to the courtyard
Loved this doorway into the…
courtyard
…beautiful stone-walled courtyard.
master bedroom
One of the lovelier bedrooms went to Jenny and Miquel! It had double doors opening up into the courtyard.
fireplace
A shame it was too hot for a fire in the fire place!
bedroom
The boys got this cute room which the chest in the corner was a perfect place for their laser tag and other treasures!
Miranda and the doorway
Miranda demonstrates that this room was best for the littlest people.
girls room
The girls got this room, and it was very special – it was so tiny, it was like a little dolls’ room!
Bedrooms
All the bedrooms were filled with sweet old touches, books to read, and the feeling like you were visiting your own grandparents for the week!
modern bathroom
The farmhouse had a recent extension built in the 1990’s, so there was one modern bathroom…
old bathroom
…and one adorable old bathroom.
kitchen
The kitchen was a favorite room for me, well stocked, and just spacious and perfect for so many of us.
kids table breakfast nook
One perfect touch was this breakfast nook, quickly made into the kids’ table.
Enric and Miranda at the window seat
At least once, Enric and Miranda skipped over the dining room table and elected the window seat for their dinner seating.
Jenny often claimed the window seat
But quite often, it was Jenny who claimed the window seat. 🙂
deer
Once, after a long day looking at waterfalls and hiking, we came home to this view out of the window, these precious deer, perhaps snitching the apples from the trees.

We enjoyed our stay, and it was rather hard to leave all the coziness.
