A Father Daughter Duet for Father’s Day

I have compared to losing a Dad as something like losing your own backbone.

You don’t think about it much until it’s gone. It’s been there supporting you in every way, and then suddenly it’s not there anymore. How do you even function?

Thankfully, he was very memorable and in some ways, it’s like he hasn’t gone. His voice, his wisdom, his silliness, his quiet and gentle ways seem so very near. I guard and treasure these memories and keep them close.

One memory I have with him was spending hours in front of a microphone he would put in front of me to tape me talking or singing into his reel to reel tape player/recorder. I enjoyed it, but usually was very impatient to hear it played.

One occasion, we had this duet we would sing, I was about 4 years old, if that…Apparently, it was an old song, Honey, sung by Rudy Vallée in 1929. (It charted for eight weeks at number one). Dad loved those old songs, and likely had it on a 78 record.

I found the recording of us singing. Thought it would be nice for a sweet small tribute to my dad on Father’s Day.

I’ve just seen this, Barb. Don’t know if you’ll see this or not, but it was so remarkable. How blessed you are to have this recording!!! I never remembered hearing Uncle Julian sing…so I’m really touched to hear it today. His speaking voice is in my brain. I know it so well. But never did I remember the singing voice. What a treasure…thanks for posting it for me to listen to. How adorable to hear him with his little daughter. How we miss this wonderful man.
