Golden Valley – part 1

About three hours south of Perth, an autumn starved American can take a drive to Balingup and right down the road is the Golden Valley Tree Park. Golden Valley Tree Park is a sixty hectare landscaped park set in the picturesque hills of Balingup. The heritage listed site has a collection of trees that was begun over one hundred years ago, and is now the largest arboretum in Western Australia.
As we found a place to park, we were not disappointed.
Since I am usually in Australia for spring missing Maryland’s autumn, this was such a blessing. We had a beautiful day to go with our outing as well!
The backdrop for this tree park is very rural and enhances everything there is to offer here.
Besides the scenic drive you can find yourself in many different trails. The Bibbulman Track traverses the site.
Oh , did I say walk and enjoy the scenery at the same time? I guess time for a bad fall! Such a Barb thing to do!
So this was my view for a bit, not so bad I guess.
Gives me time to stand around and take a photo for this bull who was onviously posing for me.
And also just enjoy the falling leaves and most serene countryside I’ve seen in a long time.
See if you too can enjoy the peace and beauty…
As we continued to walk the trails, there just was more and more to appreciate with the views.
Well with a bleeding knee and a wrapped up sprained ankle, this was a nice place to sit on a bench and rest.
It’s sure understandable to me why there has also been a substantial increase in annual visitors, from an estimated 10,000 in 2004 to close to 60,000 in 2017. Not sure how many were there the day we were there, Western Australia was just beginning to open up from Covid-19.
I could’t find how many trees they had in their world collection section, but there was an oak grove walk with plenty of specimens from everywhere. They even had a Sequoia Short walk with Giant Sequoia, Redwood &
Douglas Fir, Oaks, & Elms
! Also included is a pear walk which I guess looks lovely in spring.

At this time, we realized we planned very badly for our outing and didn’t have lunch with us. We decided to take a trip into the small neighboring town. That will be the next blog 🙂

Oh, and if you’re really curious as to which trees they had represented in their world section, you can find a list right >> HERE
