Stairway to Heaven

I suppose most are familiar with the classic “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin, but how many know the “covers” and “parodies” that have been done with this song?

What if The Doors sang Stairway to Heaven? Or Elvis? What would it sound like then? Stretch it even further, what if Rolf Harris, the Australian that sings “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” sang this song? Oh, how about the Beatles?

It seems that the there was an  Australian talk show “The Money or The Gun” which ended every episode with a different guest artist performing that song, many styles were included: big band, Doors tribute band, Elvis impersonator, B-52s cover band, opera, Beatles cover band, reggae and spoken word. But the highlight is the version of “Stairway to Heaven” by Rolf Harris.

Well if that wasn’t enough to keep me amused, there is now a site listing 101 versions of this song. Along with the ones already mentioned, the styles also include a music box, Gregorian Chant, Vienna Orchestra and so much more. Some artists listed are: Pat Boone, Dolly Parton, Foo Fighters, Heart, and even Frank Zappa.
