Just a Little Bit Country
I really can’t say I am a country music listener, but growing up, our house was often filled with the sounds of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton, just to name a few. So, I am a little bit country thanks to my dad. I can remember him taping songs on his reel-to-reel, then to cassette, playing 8 tracks, records, and finally on a CD player. My Queen Collection
American Idol did Queen songs tonight, and I’ve been anxious all week to see how that would go on tonight’s show. There were some pleasant surprises, like Kelly singing Bohemian Rhapsody! There wasn’t one that was a surprise however, I KNEW Katherine HAD to sing one of my favorites, "Who Wants to Live Forever". She did, and she nailed it. I wanted Chris to sing "Princes of the Universe" from Highlander, but he went with "Innuendo." Ok. I admit it. I’m addicted. I now look forward to each and every Tuesday night when the finalists of each week will compete once again. I get cozy with my children and we try to guess who will do well, who will be eliminated, and groan each week when they keep ones we don’t like. Last week they all had to sing a country song, (I am now a new fan of country music), and next week they all have to sing a Queen song. (Always been a Queen fan!) Caution: MP3’s can ruin your hearing
A subject close to my heart is that of hearing loss. At a very young age, due to a very bad case of the measles having gone to my ears, I lost a great deal of my hearing. I was 90% deaf in the left ear, and over 50% in the right. Needless to say, not being able to understand at a young age that I was missing sounds, I resorted to lip reading what people were telling me. When it became evident to my parents, that I wasn’t practicing what some children do, that of “selective hearing” but actually I wasn’t hearing things, they sought immediate medical attention.
