Thai Lotus

Um. No.

One of John’s frustrations is how few people in Australia know about their own native plants. The region is rich in amazing and wonderful examples of God’s creation in an abundance of a variety of flowers.

So we were at Bunnings (like our Home Depot in the U.S.A,  for something we needed and to escape the heat faster, we parked near the garden center and walked through there. We saw a lady checking out and in her trolley (we say cart) were lovely ptilotus plants. John was surprised to see a native plant in Bunnings, so we quickly looked to see where we could find some for our garden. We couldn’t find any. So he asked. Unfortunately, as helpful as the worker there was trying to be, she was looking for a “thai lotus.”  Even *I*,  a non native, knows what a ptilotus is!

Eventually were able to sort it out. There they were, not in the native section, but the cottage plants area.

So here is the latest addition to our garden!

It's doing very well in the garden, and I am giving it lots of love. A very happy accident.
