Perth Royal Show 2014: The Dogs

More than 2,000 dogs were judged at this year’s Perth Royal Dog Show. Dogs from all over the country came to show off their best form.

Dozens of breeds were on display from adorable poodles to the majestic great dane and each day different groups  paraded in front of international judges on the lawn outside the Dog Pavilion.

On this particular morning that we went, we were treated to “Dances with Dogs.” So the owner had to do a dance type routine with their dog to music.

The dog show off to an interesting start when in the first routine, the dog's owner took a fall.

The owner didn't let it discourage her, and seemed to get on with the show with some humor.

It did not hinder the owner, and she seemed to get on with the show with some humor.

Can’t show you the next dog, the little chihuahua came out and as the routine started, it promptly ran out, never to return.
Soon after that, a German Shepherd left to make friends with another German Shepherd, but it decided to go on with the show, with a few glances back to the new friend now and then.

We soon learned that the costume was a big part of the whole thing, this lady's song had something to do with rain in the lyrics.

The dogs seemed to have to move very close to the owner, do side steps, backwards and even bow and figure 8 between their legs.

Once again, costume being important, this pair danced to a medley of WWII songs.

Some costumes were flashy.

Some costumes were sparkly.

Fun to see dogs still be dogs, too.

Not all dogs were show dogs. Some were working dogs.

Like this sheep dog. A very serious and hard working dog. Didn't let those sheep get away with anything!
