The Past is a Foreign Country

The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there. ~Lesley P. Hartley, The Go-Between, 1953

I guess I could have known if I dug into my past, it would lead to a foreign country…it has actually led to a few.

I have JUST started a family tree and it has taken me far and wide.

On my father’s side so far…which in part have been a long line of zealous preachers 🙂

Staffordshire, England (Walter Bosley)

Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland) Mary Elizabeth Cume

Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland
Midlothia, Scotland
Cork, Munster, Ireland
Scotland, Northern, Ireland                    }    Craigheads, traced to 1550
Dublin Ireland
Derry, Cavan, Ireland

Germany (Adam Aarhalt)

Gravesend, Kent, England  (The Garretts, who I have learned sailed over on the Thomas and John in 1635 and have traced them back to 1550)

On my mother’s side so far…with tales of Indian kidnappings and murders, one child got away and the family line kept going)

England (Fletchers)

Prussia, Germany (Conkels)

Hessen, Germany (Steinbergers)

Pfalz, Germany (Clowsers or Klausers and Rietters)

I have taken a lot of trips but I didn’t expect a journey into my own mysterious past…. (click on the image for a larger view)
