Big Al’s Poker Run

According to Wikipedia, A poker run is an organized event where participants, usually using motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, horses, or other means of transportation must visit five to seven checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run. The event has a time limit, however the participants are not timed—winning is purely a matter of chance.

Over the years, every February, John has shared with me this yearly charity event he attends called Big Al’s Poker Run. This year I got to go too. After all these years looking at John’s photos of the event, I pretty much knew what to expect. We didn’t stay long as it was very hot and we had a party to attend that evening.

In 2012, over 650 hot rods, customs and classic cars were on show at Burswood, and hundreds of cars took part in the poker.  This year, even though we left early, it seemed to be filling up fast.

Not I suppose I am not the best person to take to a car show, classic or otherwise…I do enjoy John’s photos though.

Apparently the rule for me was I wasn’t allowed to say I used to own one of these or my Dad had one. So far, so good.

This, I learned, is what is known as a Rat Rod…

…complete with a spider.

Two Mustangs caught my eye so I snapped a photo for the Kuchas, one was called Ruby. 🙂

I forget what kind of car this was in, I just had to share that coolers in Australia are called Eskys.

Can’t remember what car THIS was on, but this was the first Australian grasshopper I’ve ever seen, so it got my attention for awhile. This was BIG compared to ours in Maryland, a good three inches. Beginning to see how much fun I am at a car show? hehe

John liked this car.

I liked the hood ornament.

I took this photo simply because I am a GIRL and the car was PINK. 🙂

A bride doll on a HUMMER limo. John should hire it for our anniversary 🙂

A shame the heat started to make the world spin. 🙁

John got some good shots though…

More of the Rat Rod…
